Hood Latch

Is there supposed to be a spring under the hood somewhere that allows it to pop open when the latch is pulled? My latch works but works best if I can get someone to hold up a little pressure on the hood to get it to release.

spray down the hood lock with some wd40 .. or something similar . I had the same problem and it was just sticking
