Hood Paint

Have been looking to having the middle of the hood and hood scope painted flat black. I know a lot of you do vinyl, but living in the NM desert I question how long that might last. I think just the middle of the hood that is raised up, and not the whole hood. Would probably finish the look with a very conservative pinstripe around the black.

Vinyl might be a little less, but I can get the paint done for under 300.00.

Thoughts???

Paint then clear bra and you wont ever have to worry about it..imo the black would look good

Ultimately it's your truck, but I always favor something that's removable unless it's being purpose built. Vinyl has come a long way from the stuff that deteriorates with heat and exposure from a decade ago. The higher end vinyl from 3M or Oracal is made specifically for vehicle applications. As an alternative to flat black you can apply clear matte vinyl to reduce glare and if you're still concerned I would regularly remove and re-apply the vinyl every 3-5 years. Talk to your installer as each vinyl has a different life span.

My Range Rover has had a matte black Oracal vinyl hood for many years and it has held up just fine. I'm about to have the hood scoop of the 4Runner done in the same fashion as I learned the hard way about the sun glare.

What you are talking about doing with paint is permanent and not to everyone's taste.

Someday you will resell the vehicle and if the hood is going to have to be resprayed to undo what you do, reduce your $$$ on resale.

Pay a pro to apply decals like you want and down the road removal is easy.

Or you can go with plastidip and just tape off the area you dont want sprayed. Paint it yourself then apply the uv coating. If you decide you dont like it, peel it off and redo it.
