Hood Prop Ideas

So today the hood just randomly shut and I wondered why there wasn't a hood prop rod. So I came up with this idea; I'll make my own! Here is the plan: get an extendable rod type thing (like this.) There has to be enough random space in the engine bay to make a holder for when the rod is fully collapsed. That way it is super convenient.

That is just my idea.What do you guys think? Has anyone else tried to make a prop rod? And no, I do not want to replace the struts.

Just replace the struts, we're not in the 70's anymore

I put new struts on for the hood and it still won't stay up. It's pretty heavy, I think they should have used heavier ones like they did for the rear.

Or just carry a pair of vice grips to put on the struts if you're that poor.

Ha ha. I once had a Mitsubishi Starion hatchback that had a solid glass rear hatch that was quite heavy so they actually put a bar on a hinge attached to the strut that you could flip into place to hold it from coming down and hitting you in the head!

you could use a girlfriend but those are pretty expensive.

Bungy cord works too, hook the front grill and then hook the other end on the roof bar.

My original struts lasted 9 years before they got weak. I put on new oem struts and it takes a lot of force to close it now. Maybe you put on some Chineese made struts to try to save a few dollars
