Hood Protector???

I got the invoice last night for the 4runner that is now on it's way to me (last one was presold to someone else.... ). When I was looking over the invoice, everything was the same except for this one has a "hood protector" as a port installed option. I am assuming that this is the Toyota bug shield but I am not positive. I've just never heard of a car arriving at a dealer with a bug shield installed already. I always thought that it was a dealer accessory. Just curious.

When I was shopping for a trunk in CO, there were Runners on the lot with bug shields installed.

Either way, YOU WANT IT!!! Especially for CO, it makes a difference.

For sure! I was going to buy one anyway. I just prefer the style that follows the line of the hood down between the grill and the headlights (I don't know who makes that style but I've seen pictures on this forum).

I would say "no". The deflector is pretty simple to install. Or, there should be a independent 4x4 shop in your area that would install it.

How do you like it? Does it fit well and did it install smoothly. I might as well keep the one that is being installed at the port (I don't have the option of not getting it) but I would have preferred the one you have.

I love it! very low profile and install was easy... only complaint i have is, since it sits too low on the hood it's a pain cleaning underneath the deflector. Waxing is even worst.:bash:

That is identical to the Toyota (Canada) one I just installed on my 07.

Those 4th Gen ones look a ton better than the ones for the 3rd Gen. I had one on my 98, but will not put one on my 2002. I think they look like crap on 3rd gens. Besides, I haven't noticed any more chips or cracks without it.

Interesting....I wonder why the Toyota hood protector is different for Canada.

I like that one better. It's a lower profile hood protector and has the same lines as the Benevento. Very nice!

I plan on trying out the clear bra alternative on mine. I haven't had much luck on bug shields lasting or protecting a whole lot... besides I like the stock lines better. I'll let you know how when I get it.

Mine, which I guess you could call a Benevento/Toyota is pretty straight forward.

You remove the grill which is straight forward enough. You then put some cushion tape on the hood. The deflector then goes against that, "squeezed" on by the grill. So, in essence, sandwiched between the grill and hood.

You then have 2 bumper stops on the middle of the hood itself, and 4 other "clips" (2 on each end which are the black things in the pic) which go around the leading edge of the hood and a push clip pushed THROUGH the protector into the C clip to hold the edges down. Kind of hard to picture, but that's pretty much it.

No drilling or anything like that is required, and they give some of that 3M protector film where the C-clips go around the hood so they don't damage the paint. Pretty slick, actually.

I thought about that, but the problem I have is they're about $1000. You'll still get rock chips on your mirrors, A-Pillars and higher up on your hood too.

Just too high cost/payback ratio, IMHO.

true, i was about to do clear bra, but after the quote and did some research online, holy crap!!!! if i do the hood, then i would rather go with the extended full bumper, then, both side mirrors, thats add up A LOT!!!! crazy money there!!! that's almost the cost to buy a Jao's bull bar.

I can't answer that as I haven't seen a "Benevento" branded one. Maybe if Blindside posted some more pics of his I'd be able to tell you.

My gut says just from his pics I have seen, I'd probably put money on it that it's identical.

If anyone wanted a Canadian OEM one, it cost me approx $90 CDN. Shipping might be a pain in the butt. It'd probably arrive in about 6 chunks.
