Hood release cable loose from lever

Went to check my oil this evening, and pulled the hood release lever like always - nothing. Inspection revealed that the cable has come loose from the lever itself. Pulling said cable releases the hood latch. I just can't get the cable back into the groove on the lever. Any ideas?

First I'd resize your picture, it's huge.

Second pull the cable sheath out of the white holder, push the metal pin into the slot on the side of the tan latch, slip the cable into the groove. Then pull the sheath (with the cable still seated in the latch) until you can pop it into the white retainer. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! Happens a bit when you take the dash off or any of those kick panels, those pesky cables will pop off every now and then when they're not how they're supposed to be, or sometimes just from pulling on them.

Like BlackWorks said, its easy to put back in. Step back, study it for a few seconds, then pop it back in.

Mine always pops out (along with the gas door opener) anytime I pull the lower dash out.

slide cable sleeve out of its slot, reconnect cable end in handle, slide cable sleeve back into its slot

I just tried to open my hood and the release lever under the steering wheel would not open the first stage, to get to the secondary release. The cable has a lot of slack in it and no tension. Any thoughts!
