Hood Scoop???

You could, but it wouldn't do anything except make your engine dirty. It would only be useful if you had an air filter/intercooler right under the hood, because any attempts people have made to route the air coming through the scoop into the air box did not yield great results.

I noticed my SE had mark of splash on engine cover after car wash, obviously through the hood scoop. This proves the hood scoop is functioning, at least partial functioning.
If you make it full functioning, you will have a water-cooled engine when it rains. That would be very cool.

Where in the fuse box would I connect the sensor for the flap? It could even be vacuum operated like the old days.

I personally plan to install a "Night Rider--Kit" red light inside my 06' SE scoop. The light will move back and forth laterally just like the car did in the hit T.V. show (with David Hasselhoff). I'm going for the Airwolf retractable missile bay compartments in strategic exterior locations. The missiles won't actually launch but they'll look totally realistic... :bugeye:

you don't even have to find a feed for the sensor. Install a windmill and keep the flap open in dry day, it will generate additional electricity as air is sucked in.
The hood scoop is very polarizing. It seems that many like the phony look!
The sport had many things I liked over the SR5 but I could not deal with the ugly hood.

The air filter and intercooler are not the same thing. The airbox (where the filter is contained) is on the passenger side of the engine compartment, just like on our vehicles in North America.
The reason it's not available in the US is there is a stigma against diesel's in the US and we do not (yet) have low sulfur content diesel.
I wouldn't mind test-driving a Diesel 4Runner if they were ever brought over here. Anything with a turbo could definitely be fun to tinker with.
