Hood with scoop

Oh here we go with the “why would anyone want that fake scoop” and “the glare off the fake scoop will instantly make you go blind” posts. Ignore them. If you want a hood with scoop you can (a) buy one through a dealership or (b) buy one on eBay. I bought one on eBay and had my dad paint it (he restores old cars as a hobby so has the equipment and know-how). Your next question will be: was the eBay hood any good? Answer: it’s perfectly fine.

Bonus answers so we don’t have to beat this to death again:
1. No... the scoop doesn’t have a function.
2. No... there doesn’t appear to be a way to make it have a function.
3. Yes... you will experience glare when heading into the sun at certain times of the day.
4. The eBay hood, plus extra gaskets that you’ll need, plus paint will cost about $1000.
5. Yes... the hood with the scoop is subjectively more awesome than the hood without the scoop

Never could square Toyota's brand image of utterly reliable capability with a totally non-functional hood scoop.

If the rest of the package is a lumberjack, the hood scoop is the skinny jeans. (Objectively speaking, of course)

Actually, I started by affirming - like several others have - that if the scoop mattered, the OP should indulge. So, yeah, I did contribute.

I'll contribute more. I have a 4R with a scoop, and I've never noticed any glare at all. Mine is white - maybe the color matters? But it's not a problem I've encountered.

Find someone with a Trail/Offroad that will trade you, offer some cash to sweeten the deal. I couldn't stand the fake scoop on mine, traded it away and made a hundred bucks. Now I have more visibility, no glare, and I'm a hundred dollars richer. That's better than a codpiece on my hood any day of the week.

This! More than a few members here have switched with each other and should be your first step.

I couldn’t agree more. I am not a fan of “fake features” on vehicles and brake vents on Mustangs immediately come to mind. As the owner of a Jeep TJ, I wonder why Toyota didn’t just make the scoop functional. After all isn’t airflow through the engine bay a good thing? You would be surprised by the number of Jeeps on the road out here in the desert with some kind of modified stock or aftermarket hood that promote increased airflow to reduce under hood temperatures. Sure, we’d be having a different conversation as to whether the functional scoop actually does anything, but at least there would be a purpose. As the owner of a hood scooped T4R, that was one of the few things I didn’t like simply because it is nonfunctional. I’ve even briefly contemplated the possibility of making it functional simply to promote increased airflow to reduce underhood temperatures.

If that's the case I have a scoopless Magnetic Grey Metallic and I would trade someone if they are interested.

Wow, didn't mean to cause so much drama. Coming from the Mach1 world, even the shaker on a 03/04 mustang is for looks. Unless it's raised into the slip stream (which I did). If you take a string from the leading edge of the hood to the top of the roof above the wind shield, it will give you the basic slip stream. Anything under the line has little to no effect on aerodynamics. Not that it matters, we drive aerodynamic bricks. Oh and my TerRD has a "scoop". Maybe one day I will cut the hood and let air escape. :beer:
