The fatality rate measured by # deaths / # cases is now 1% today, down from 1.7% a few days ago, as expected. It will continue to drop.

The # cases is increasing significantly because it’s more a function of scaling up testing right now while the virus has already spread. China suppressed news of the virus for a long time allowing it to spread globally, and the WHO didn’t listen to Taiwan in December, also allowing it to spread. Awareness and testing lagged the spread of the virus by a mile.

Keep washing those hands and surfaces. And avoid spring breakers in FL.

Unless you're in Italy. With 700+ new deaths yesterday, that is almost 1/3rd of ALL deaths in Italy.
 
Tonight, the US has 594 cases with an outcome: 416 deaths and 178 recoveries.
The number of confirmed cases is 33,073, so ~32,000 confirmed cases do not have an outcome, yet.

Italy has a few problems, which easily explains that situation:

88% of covid-19 reported fatalities had at least one pre-morbidity.

Italy has the 2nd oldest population WW.

The country has an overstretched health system and they're really not treating the elderly who get covid-19. They're prioritizing younger people.

And, the way they're reporting coronavirus deaths may be faulty - everyone with a coronavirus who dies is counted, even when death occurs due to some other reason.

You don't like Italy - look at the situation in NY - and it is still early....

Early self quarantining is the only thing that will keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed. If we wait until our communities are inundated then it will just drag this out.

I'm not the only one talking about Italy

Now, this one made me laugh. Not due to what you wrote, but because of what I "read". When I initially read this reply, I was like: "Advanced Options!? Is this guy really going to try and claim he has some sort of precision technique for wiping his own... Seriously!?"

Yes people are getting sick. Yes it’s really an unfortunate situation.

However reality doesn’t seem to match the doom and gloom shills.

Case in point, Pelosi’s political stunt to kill the $1T+ coronavirus aid package. If the situation was that dire she wouldn’t dare such a thing, or there would be mutiny against her. Instead, crickets except hey stocks are crashing again.

Perhaps they should have focused on the new Chinese coronavirus itself and COVID-19, the disease caused by it, from the beginning.

Also, apparently Lombardi region in Northern Italy has really bad air quality from pollution.

Yep. I've known Fauci for about 15 years and he is one of the few that knows what he is talking about.

So the bottom line is that social distancing works.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - If we ALL practice social distancing, then we slow the spread. If we can get it to a R0 (R-nought) of close to, or under 1 (i.e. each infected person infects less than one other) then the disease ends.

I think Social distancing does work. I've been practicing it for years. Anyone appears sick, stay away from them (even the wife - no kisses, if really sick no hugs. Same for kids, parents, grandparents, etc...). Don't touch publicly shared surfaces then grab food and put it in your mouth (although I slip on this one when it comes to ketchup bottles and french fries). Wash your hands. Cover up sneezes/coughs (and turn away from others in the vicinity). More often than not, I get through cold and flu season without getting sick. Coincidental? I dunno, but being a mild germophobe seems to work for me.

Definitely works for all the usual suspects like common colds and flus.

The challenge with the new virus per smart people is that it lays dormant for 1+ weeks so it can be difficult to tell if someone is contagious or not.

Correct. We just need to expand the social distancing that Jernik exercises to everyone for several weeks and this will slow the spread.
