Good to know you received the memo with the talking points.

Yeah well when you are married to a virologist and your father and brother are both physicians who specialize in public health and epidemiology you tend to look very critically at things espoused by politicians who pretend to have any knowledge of science.

I tend to be critical about everything. Even physicians are paid for by big pharmaceutical companies.

For those saying that COVID-19 is no worse than the seasonal flu, I'd like to present some numbers from Austria. I'll summarize it below and you can see the original text at the bottom. Data is from Presse - the official Austrian statistical office and is for the week of March 30 to April 5. 1788 people died during this period which was an increase of 13% over the same period in the years 2016-2019. The increases were primarily in the 65+ age group. The increase was almost equally distributed between men and women (13.3% to 12.9%). More important are the regional numbers where there was a delay in social distancing - by region:
Vorarlberg +42%
Tirol +38%
Steiermark +25%
Burgenland +24%
Kärnten +20%

In areas that started social distancing early, the numbers were:
Oberösterreich (+7%)
Niederösterreich (+5%)
Salzburg (+4%)
Wien (+1%)

Yes, it is a small snapshot, but a 42% increase in deaths over prior years is pretty significant.

How about some positive news for once?

4 - New cases Today
6 - Yesterday
20 - I think (Most were tied to two McDonalds on the Big Island)
12 - Friday
11 - Thursday

And who says you can't flatten the curve?

That pastor in VA who defiantly held packed services in spite of the coronavirus warnings? He got sick and died of covid-19. On Easter Sunday.

Let me guess - no info provided on age or underlying health conditions?

Due to shorter hours, more people are packed into the few retail stores allowed to remain open along with grocery stores. Anyone been to their local garden nursery, Lowe’s or Home Depot lately, not to mention grocery stores.

There isn’t a pile of dead retail or grocery store workers. Why?

There's a Stanford U study out where they found the Wuhan virus was >50x more widespread than positive test cases indicate, in the Bay area. Indicates the mortality rate is no greater than the flu.

Now there's a study from USC around Los Angeles - same results.

Coronavirus antibody testing shows LA County outbreak is up to 55 times bigger than reported cases

So? That doesn't change the fact that fatalities increased 42% in Vorarlberg and 38% in Tyrol. That has nothing to do with how widespread COVID-19 is, it has everything to do with a huge increase in fatalities over past years - and the only difference is COVID-19.
