Does anyone know where I can get a nice LOUD bull horn or truck horn for my 4runner??? any recommendations on what to install.
I had an "OOGA horn" but she is sounding like she is going to kick the bucket and I wanted to replace it with a better sound.
I had the "OOGA" wired seperately from my standard horn so that I wouldnt give my neighbors a heart attack if my alarm went off.:eek:

Thanks to JHarris for your recommendation.
I went to the griotsgarage link and ordered the german hella horn....It should be arriving shortly, so I will let everyone know just how loud it is.

I was thinking about getting air horns again but my wife keeps making fun of me. So doing a swap of louder horns sounds like a better idea and might keep my wife off my case. Did you get thos German's one yet? If yes, are they worth the 70plus bucks?

Also, was it a simple disconnect reconnect?
 
How hard would it be to install the German Hella Horns in my '03 4runner? The stock horns are quite week even after taking off the little sheild. I dont have much experiecne in wiring and such.

horn problem

I havent managed to install them yet, the wiring is a bit of a problem....They arent just plug and play...so I think I am going to turn it over to an expert.

As far as sound, they sound great once installed, I have heard them before.

Will keep ya posted.

I went to Pep Boys yesterday to see what they had for horns. They had a wide selection on AirHorns which is what I have been installing on my past 4 vehicles, and I can say three things about them:
They are loud
They piss people off
They take too long to install for something I don't use that much

Except that time when I used to do deliveries to this dock which you needed a loud horn to get the guys attention I yet to really need them. So I got these twin horns which are fairly loud (not as loud as the air horns) but loud enough, and the install took 30 minutes once we realized what we thought was the ground, actually wasn't. Oh they are 118DB's. I'll try to make a sound clip when I get a chance. The best way I can think of doing that is recording it with my Ipaq, but of course I have to be the one infront of them. Greeaatttt

Another pic of them. Next comes my foglights. Still trying to figure out how I am going to get through the firewall to the center console area. Any suggestions???

Are they a "hella" alot louder than the factory '03 horns?
They are pathetic!!!:50cal:


Does anyone know how hard it will be to install them on
the '03? I might be getting some soon!
 
I don't see it being that hard. Even with Air Horns, all you need to do is remove the existing horns or just unplug them, and use that plug to make the connections. I never cut the plugs, I just put ends on the ends of the wires and slide the ends into the plugs. As long as you follow the directions, use the existing plugs, and the horns are accessible (which in my Passport they were not) then you are in the clear. Look at where I put my horns, they are really easy to get to.

Not hard at all. Here is a tip me and my buddy figured out during the troubleshooting process. There is a clip for each horn (there is two), so we thought that one of the two was the ground: WRONG!!! Turned out when we reconnected them and they still did not work, is when we realized that they needed to be bolted in, hence being the ground. So when installing new horns, use the ground wire and attached it to one of the bolts holding the horn in.

I thought I would take another stab at fixing my horns....
:duh:

I realized that I had a blown fuse.....They are working properly now and I am very happy with them. Just needed to remember to ground them both. Thanks for the info everyone gave me.
