Horrible Experience with MagnaFlow

Shopping for a replacement muffler. Add me to the list of avoiding magnaflow.

Even if your attitude sucked, this is blatant and repeated failure of their product.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

Sorry for your trouble but thankfully you save me a lot of trouble in the future.

I will make sure never to buy any of their products ever!

I actually have Magnaflow direct fit cat system for a few years now before reading this thread and after reading this I sure hope Magnaflow has subscribed to this thread and looked at the views, almost 30,000 for this thread in 4 years. I certainly will think twice before giving them my future business.

I did a quick Google search for "4runner magnaflow muffler", this thread comes up in the top three searches:

I spoke with one of Magnaflow's headquarter technicians, Ron, who described the failure to me. The inside portion of pipe within the muffler literally broke off inside of the casing, causing a condition known as a "floating core." The muffler sounded worse than a fart can. Every bump, the improperly welded pipe moved past the outlet of the muffler and let out a loud burp. After about 3 phone calls to Magnaflow, Amazon.com sent a new replacement.

One of our other vehicles, a 1992 Toyota Pickup, has been running a Magnaflow 18" oval muffler for about 8 or so years. This led me to believe that the specific muffler I had on my 4Runner was just a fluke. I returned to Collin's Muffler and Hitch and paid $75 to switch out the mufflers.

Inside of the first muffler, it was clear that the material inside had burnt away (as per usual), while the actual metal pipe separated from the inside casing. This was heavily disappointing, at least Ron was correct with his diagnosis....

The new muffler was a ticking time bomb. QUOTE]

COB,
What a horrible experience! I have had lots of success with Magnaflow mufflers on my Maxima's but that's a different application. Have you considered copying this post on to the Magnaflow Facebook page or even posting the story minus the videos? I have successfully used that approach with two Fortune 500 companies and my issues were resolved within 48hrs. Call it Public Shaming or access to Corporate Customer Service, either way it works. No company wants bad press.

Does Borla make exhaust for SUV's?

Good Luck

Crazy of them to blame the consumer for their inferior products. After seeing this thread, I will not be purchasing any Magnaflow products in the future.

Just to tack my experiences on to this one... I bought a 3" high flow cat from Magnaflow ~13 years ago for ~$150 but it came with a $50 mail in rebate.

Since then I've spent far more than $50 worth of my time arguing about the rebate.

I mailed it 6 months before the "must be postmarked by" date, included return address info, contact info, and a tracking number (USPS) that shows it was delivered.

It said wait up to 10 weeks. I waited 15. Contacted their customer service and they said they never received it, then they did receive it but it didn't have the receipt, then they received it with the receipt but by now the promotion was over... etc. Throughout the entire process, the customer service reps and managers were awful. I always had to pull info vs. them pushing it to me, etc etc. They never called when they said they'd call...

I've spent since then roughly $3000 on exhaust work across 22 different cars. And not once have I used another Magnaflow part. Nor will I ever again. That high flow cat failed and shat out its grid after a year of sitting behind a mild turbo build.

The Flowmaster cat I bought to replace it has been in place since and the car is still driven daily by my parents.

Sorry to thread jack.
