Horrible Gas Mileage

All stock '16 Sr5p 4x4, best I've seen is 16mpg. Are you guys calculating yourself or going by what's on the display? I feel like I should be getting a little better gas milage than this.

I'm getting 11.75 mpg but it's been 0 degrees most days and I warm it up at least 15min 3 times a day. This is a manual calculation. With how many miles I drove and how much i filled up.

19.77MPG from Los angeles to Southern Utah on 91 octane. Speeds averaging 75 mph. Tires at 36 psi. 4runner gauge showed 19.5 vs the manually calculated 19.77mpg

Done by hand filled tank set trip-B then back to station put in 14.4 gallons to fill tank and had 79.2 miles which gives me 5.6 miles to the gallon.
And that is with no more then 1 min. warm up and no sitting still idling,
my trips have been short under 5 miles with stop and go most times.
I did check the Mass air flow sensor to make sure there was no dirty also
check air box to make sure there were no nests or any other blockage.
If anyone has any other ideas please feel free to post them.

It is hard to make any suggestions/comments as you don't say much about your vehicle or driving conditions/habits. For instance, what year, how many miles. I see you indicate short trips, so I am assuming city driving, but 2wd or 4wd? Where are you getting your gas? I noted a significant difference in mileage when using gas from a club store versus stopping at a brand name station (ie it was significantly better using gas from a brand name station with the same octane level purchased from both).

I have a 2018 Limited with only about 2500 miles and have never seem more than 14.6 based on the computer read. This is absolutely horrible MPG!! Do not have any extra weight other than the stock options of step rails, hood wind deflector and window wind deflectors. We mostly drive it in the city and some (maybe 20%) highway.

The year is 2013 SR5 with 80,000 miles all stock, drive in 2wd
the temps here are 20-40 degrees it is winter in NH with winter mix gas
I have been driving with the ECO light in mind easy on the take off from a stop
things like that trying to get the best MPG I can, no heavy loads in back.
do you think changing gas stations would make a significant difference by adding 10 MPG or so to what I get now

I don’t mean this in a condescending way, but are you sure if was full the first time? Sometimes the pumps at some places here shut off early. Some have shut off on me before I reach a couple gallons even on an empty tank. If you really drove 80 miles on 14.5 gallons something is seriously wrong and i’d take it to get looked at.

I am sure it was full after the first time the pump handle clicks off I always do it again slower and fuel gauge needle was at the top side of the full mark.
I just bought it the first week of December so I will have to save up to take it
to the over priced dealer

I would definitely take it back, something has to be wrong. Is there any evidence of a gas leak underneath that you can tell? I don’t know much about mechanic work, but it seems lik there has to be a leak for mileage to be that bad. Either way good luck, hopefully the dealer will get you fixed and won’t give you problems.

No leaks and no sudden drop with the gas gauge like over night or sitting a day or two.

Maybe Toyota installed one of there Nascar engines buy mistake they get
around 6 MPG

Is your 6 mpg typical, or just on one tank? If your 4runner is getting this type of mileage consistently, it sounds like there is something wrong or that it needs a tune up. I would suggest taking it to a professional mechanic.

there seem to be A LOT of these threads. for the record I just drove my very first 5,250 miles without resetting my fuel economy gauge in my very much stock 2017 TRD Off-Road I have taken it off-roading, short trips long trips mostly commute it would say 60% highway 40% off highway (city but also off road country road etc) I averaged 18.3mpg according to the car. I reset it after it's first oil change tire rotation etc. I'll post again in another 5,000 miles.

We've had my wife's 2011 4Runner Limited for about a month now, and I can't believe the poor mileage we're getting. Our 2004 SR5 4Runner never got less than 18.5 mpg, even with a lot of short trips around town, etc.
Our 2011 is only averaging 15.8 mpg! What is the deal? Is anybody else experiencing this?
Heck, my 2008 Tundra with a 5.7 liter 381 hp engine is a heck of a lot more powerful and is getting 14.7 mpg this winter!!!
What gives? Is anybody else let down with the mileage they're getting out of their new 4Runners?

I thought I read some were the front axle has a actuator motor which would disengage one axle.?
If not maybe a lighter weight gear oil would help out, I never do highway miles
