Horrible Gas Mileage

Yes, definitely be careful when running the higher pressures. Your margin for error when the temperature changes and the air expands is MUCH less.
My 2011 TE is getting 15.5 mpg in the city and trying to drive conservatively to a point. It has 2k miles in it. I checked gas manually and with the comp and all comes out the same . 15.5 !!!
On the other hand the 06 4x4 4.7l V8 , full time 4wd never got below 16.5 and was not a dog like this truck is . It had some great power and torque curves to it . Best motor I ever had in a truck. I did manual checks and comp. checks on this one too and both came out the same .
I guess Im lucky because my comp readouts always were within a point or 2 of the actual manual calculation . Close enough for me .
I agree with trying different types of gas , stations and brands . Don't be afraid to ask the manager who's gas they use. Some stations HERE can buy generic gas or buy the name brand gas such as mobile or BP . I've tried a couple and seem to get the best bang for my 4R at BP. Also ask if they are running winter blended fuel or summer blended fuel , depending on where you live. I can instantly tell when they switch fuel blends. WINTER blend will drop my mpg and performance by up to 2 mpg . Thats what we have to use now here in Wisconsin . SUMMER blend is much smoother running , better throttle response , better milage .
I also did not buy this or my other 4R for gas savings . I do it mostly out of curiosity and to make sure nothing is drastically wrong like getting 10mpg or something.
Anything with 4wd will not get good milage , thats just the way it is , but it's nice to get the most out of it.

Car also isnt broken in yet, they tend to yield higher MPG after the first 10k miles, than in the first 10k miles. It's winter too, i know diesel is different in the winter due to gelling, and i notice less mpg in winter in my 4runner due to use of 4x4 more, and slower speeds.
How many miles do you have on your vehicle and and what point did you start to notice that you were getting 22-23 MPG?
I can get 22-24 highway, but to do so I have to drive like a 90 year old and not exceed 55 mph. Once I get up to 65, mpg drops to 22.
Got 24.8 last night on the way home from the gas station (about 6 miles) accelarating slowly and coasting up to stop lights, not hitting the brakes on turns and coasting where possible.
My trip to work today dropped that average back to 18.5.

Is your wife idling a lot before she starts driving?
I'm getting 20~22mpg even on this **** winter gas.
We let ours warm up before driving for ~10 minutes. After that the truck is babied and lately we CAN NOT squeeze better than 14.4 MPG out of her. This is a true calculation by dividing the number of miles on the tripometer by the number of gallons to fill the tank (until it is visibly full, yes as in spending an extra three minutes clicking the pump on and off until gas comes out). I know that's stupid, ok.
This is nothing more than a fact. My 2011 sr5 will get 22mpg ONLY if I am cruising on the highway at 55mph. Myself and everyone else around here drives 70-75mph on the highway. This very reasonable speed yields about 18mpg only for the straight highway cruise. I see no way in hell that somebody can average 19+ mpg on a tank even using hypermiling techniques, unless they drive no faster than say, 60mph for 300 miles or so, on one tank.
This truck gets terrible fuel economy. TERRIBLE! The sticker is not true as there is no way ANYBODY can obtain 22mpg on the highway cruising at 70mph on the highway. IMPOSSIBLE! With that said, I do love the truck, have no regrets, and it's freaking amazing in the snow.

All are running winter blend, regardless of what they tell you. Not up to them, up to the refinery. There are no summer blend gasoline reserves. A lot of money in it for the refineries to make producing the winter blend as it's a lower cost process that uses less processing and recycling. Unfortunately, that's all you can get right now.

I have 23k on the odometer, I drive hilly city streets to drop my wife off and then take the freeway home (less traffic) and I am getting 17-18 MPG depending on how hard I goose it along the on-ramps. We took several road trips in the summer, from Seattle to Glacier NP, and we got 21mpg on the highway stretches with a roof rack and the A.C. on all the time.
Try NOT warming it up for 10 minutes before you drive it and see what your mileage is like in a month. Just because you idle for an hour a week (that's ZERO miles per gallon) and overfill your tank doesn't mean your Toyota can't get the same numbers other people are reporting. You just have to do what they do and avoid the gas wasting you are doing. This truck gets great mileage, when operated correctly.

Ummm...you know that 10 minutes you are warming it up? You are getting ZERO mpg. ZERO. This is 2011. All you are doing is wasting gas.

I was going to dispute you but after looking at my mileage records since Winter gas I've only had 22+mpg once.
Overall MPG after 8k miles is still 21.07 (down a bit)
Looks like it's going to get worse (stupid gov't
)EPA approves more ethanol...

I use my T4R for work, drive at least 100 miles a day on the highway. I get 16.4 mpg. For the first 1500 miles I was getting 15. I have 285 70 17 BFG AT and tend to drive about 70-75 MPH.
The interesting thing is that my MPG stays in the 16 range regardless of how I drive, unless I am going over passes in 4 wheel drive. If I am using all 4 I get around 13, not bad considering my last truck went down to around 8 in 4 wheel dirve.

Yes and yes! 10 minutes is ridiculous. There is no point in that. Please do not come here complaining about MPG when you leave your vehicle idle for an hour a week.

Its definetly the gas. Read my thread I just posted this morning. Not hijacking your thread. But i filled up on E0 gas and got an extra 4.3 mpg. We r all getting screwed.

Is your speedo corrected for the tires? Your speedo/odo are low, correct, so mileage is higher than the computer says?
