I live in Katy (west Houston), and LOVE to Wheel! I like Brazos Valley Off-road Ranch a lot.. is anyone interest in Wrench meets or an off-road meet in the area? I spend a lot of time with a bunch of Tacomas and some 1st gen Runners.. I don't know anyone else in the area with a 3rd gen 4Runner.. I am beginning to wonder if I am the only local 3rd gen that wants to wheel it!!??!!

He PM'd me, and I responded.. haven't heard back yet. Thanks!

dude im up to go out on the trails with ya... let me know when ur planning something and ill see if i can make it up there.

Awesome! My Lift ships at the end of this month, will get it one in about a week. The first thing I want to do is try it out! How is Bryan, TX from you?

I live in Houston/Galleria but only have a stock 2wd with road tires. Got twins a couple weeks away so probably won't be able to get out for a while.

Twins! Congratulations! I will get some kind of Houston/Local meet together eventually.
I wish I wheeled all the time! But Im interested in meeting up sometime, just let me know when and where!

Awesome! I'll post the next trip to where ever we go.. Probably Bryan, it's easy.. nice place to camp and wheel. Great for meet ups big and small.

City dweller - inner loop near Rice U. Have triple tred tires on though, so not sure if I could survive not being a PITA ;)

anyone know if Sam Houston Nat'l park has anything available ? We used to dirtbike up there like mad a few lifetimes ago...

Sam Houston is mostly for Mountain biking, atvs and Dirt bikes. I don't know any Offroad 4x4 trails for jeep or equivalent. Bryan does have BVORR and the Austin Marble falls area has Hidden Falls, Long's ranch... Come out to BVORR with me some time, and see what you can do. You do have 4wd.. right? :D

Yeah Sam, but its my first - I came from a 2nd gen RWD....but I was a dirtbiker - I know how to pick a line, if that helps ;)

I just love those pine forests in Sam Houston....too bad! For sure there is a big off road park up near huntsville too. I'll try to dig it up.

I heard General Sam's was an ATV park mostly.. But there is trails there.. I am game if you are. I am telling you though, if you like the green trails, try BVORR.

from southeast Houston, fellas- gotta wheelin-virgin here. I've always WANTED to go, even thinking about selling mine to buy a 4WD! For now, this Runner's been fishing and hunting several times, but never "serious" off-roading, and not quite sure what defines "wheelin" or if my machine's ready for it, but I've always been interested! Couple of probs and needing some input:
1) I've got a 2WD, but read a few postings on the forum that it's doable.
2) I've got standard Michelin's- going to be getting the AT's in about 10k miles!! Can't wait!!
3) no lift kit. :redbrick:

So, input? Hold off? Give it a whirl? Help?

No 4wd will really limit you on climbs of any sort. I have been wheeling mine without a lift lately and without those running boards, the clearance is descent for BVORR. An open rear diff and 2wd is going to be your biggest problems. I put a locker in mine, and with 2wd.. I can get through a lot, but if you are climbing a hill, or rocks or whatever.. it is really a challenge. You can certainly try it, there is no harm in that! Come out to Bryan with me sometime and just see what you can do. I can pull you out if you get stuck anywhere.

Grapevine now.

Where are there trails in the DFW area?

Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area

There is another one that is closer to Grapevine too.. an hour west.. http://www.cityofbridgeport.net/index.aspx?nid=322

Sam, thanks a mill for the advice. What locker did you put in your 2WD? I've seen some priced between $400-$800, but am not at all familiar with what type I should be looking for. And I love my T4R, so if I decide to keep mine, I want to consider putting in the exrta funds for upgrades.
