How can I reduce wind noise caused by a Hood Deflector?

I've done some searching, but have not found any solid info. I just installed a Toy. factory hood deflector on my '99 T4R, and ever since, I've noticed a loud wind noise coming from it above 50mph. Real aggravating! I took it off this weekend, and no wind noise, so I know the deflector the problem. Any ideas on how I can eliminate or reduce this wind noise w/o taking it off completely? The only remedy I've found so far is to just turn the radio up. But that only works until someone riding wants to talk. I don't want to remove it totally, but man, that wind noise sucks!

thats the joy of a wind deflector, you may want to try and bring the shield in closer to the hood...thats about all you can do though.

Wind noise? That's kinda odd since my mom's '99 has the OEM one and hers doesn't make any noticeable noise and I have the AutoVentShade version and it's fine also.

Well I would, but there is no slack in the holes on the deflector to move it up and down. There is only room to move it side to side. I've thought about running a bead of silicone in between the deflector and hood and see if that helps. The only problem though, is finding where the noise is actually coming from on the deflector. It's either going between the deflector and hood where it bolts down, or around the sides of the deflector near the headlights. It's very annoying. My '95 w/ a wind deflector never had this problem.

you may have a deflective bug shield. If you bought it from the dealer, take it back, and buy an EGR or other aftermarket shield. Almost all have a lifetime warranty, and I have never heard of one giving a large amount of wind noise. Perhaps its not letting your hood close 100%, which could cause a sound...

Do you think the Dealer would refund me the money on the deflector simply due to wind noise? That'd be awesome if they did. How much would I be looking at on an aftermarket one like an EGR?

If I can get the dealer to sell me my 4Runner below wholesale, you can get them to refund your FAULTY hood shield. If they won't refund you, get a different one, and if that one makes noise, then demand a refund. Lund, EGR and the sorts go or about $45 shipped on ebay, and a little more at retail stores. But try that burtman guy, I'm pretty sure he sells EGR. My sister has the EGR on her 01, and she has no noise, nor has it broken (95k on it!!) Anyways, if you make a big enough deal, they will do anything...talk to the sales manager is you have to. Good luck!
