Title says it all. Pancho(my 4Runner) just threw another check engine light and is exhibiting the same signs it did a few months back when the injector on cylinder 4 went out. :smashputer: I am fairly mechincally inclined with most tools. Is the intake manifold going to need to be removed? I know the spark plugs are more difficult to get to on that side of the engine, will the injector be the same trouble? I have tried running sea foam through it, and I know the plugs and wires are good, and it is only misfiring cylinde number 3 according to my OBD scanner. Thanks for the help!

cylinder three is on the passenger side, middle if i remember correctly. Never changed an injector but I think you could probably get to it just removing intake and maybe throttle body. Shouldn't be to bad. Be prepared for your wiring shroud to crumble to pieces on you.
edit: when i say intake, i don't mean the plenum, I think you just need the silencer and all that out the way.

yeah 3 is on pass side, i've changed mine pretty easy. just take off intake manifold, dont have to disconnect TB, but remember to plug the coolant line to the TB, then unbolt fuel rail, lil gas will come out, so put a rag around the rail, then it should just unplug, make sure to replace both of not all injector o rings, since you'll have 1,3,5 injectors out anyway. also there is 2 washers on the fuel rail bolt, dont loose it.

Since you've never done it before... I would set aside 3-4 hours to be safe.

I think it took me about 2 hrs. But definately best to take more time to ensure a good job

Have you taken it to a mechanic to do a compression test?
I know there is a lot of talk about injectors on the forum in the last few months but many of those cases turned out to not be the injector at all and instead were cracked heads / head gaskets.
I am at 209,000 miles on the original injectors.
Unless you know it is "for sure" the injector, I would look into other possibilities as well.

Well I finished the tank of fuel with the Sea Foam in it last night and everything is running smooth again. I cleared the CEL again yesterday before leaving work, ran great last night and today. Fingers crossed it stays like this.
Pancho is going to the shop in like two weeks for rear axel seal, brakes, water pump, timing belt etc, I will have the compression tested then.

I was at a shop in San Diego last month and met a guy who drove down from Long Beach to Miramar Rd, San Diego just so he could have his Tacoma worked by a well rep'd Toyota truck mechanic. I was at The Truck Shop in San Diego. I guy was from TacomaWorld or one of those sites.

I will be taking it to my mechanic of the last 8 or 9 years. His name is Teddy he owns Mavrik Motorsports in La Palma. It is more of a performance shop, they do one offs for SEMA race prep etc, but they do regular vehicles as well. When I worked for Axis Wheels he was the in house mechanic, then went out on his own. Ive taken my last 2 vehicles plus countless friends to him. He is a little on the slow side but does great work at a great price and is honest(a trait we all know can be hard to find). I took him with me to look over Pancho before I purchased him last October.
