How difficult is it to replace the securikey with a key fob?

I just purchased a 1998 4Runner with the Securikey system. I purchased it from the original owner who purchased the car in Texas then drove it home to Florida. From what I'm reading this is mostly a Texas only installed option. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get a replacement FOB because one of the two I was given is completely broken and the other one is on its way out. Thanks!

Damn. I wish I saved it but I know there's an OEM part number for the Securikey fob out there. I remember plugging it in and being able to add it to my cart. This was two years ago though. Just know it's out there and there are replacements still left.

Thank you for your help! After a lot of researching I found the information and part number on Securikey+ ELVAT6B 0014-S0274 0014-S0273 History, Information and Programming Instructions . Sent multiple gulf shores dealers a request for the part but they never got back to me. Luckily there is one dealer with an ebay site that had 3 left. It came as just the fob which is all I really want considering both with the key in the fob broke. Programmed it today and it worked perfectly!

I have a 1998 SR5 from Houston but my the model number on my alarm module is slightly different 00014-S0200, any idea if that same key would work on mine? I can find little info on this system and I'm pretty sure it's a Securikey+ but no confirmation one what replacement key fob I need (my used 4runner didn't come with one).

This is correct. Most Toyotas sold in the Houston area from 98 and 99 had Securikey+ as their car alarm system. Just google "securikey+" to get information on how to program. I don't believe it's possible to replace with another fob as this type of key/fob combo was exclusive to the alarm that was installed by the factory. So, you may have to replace the alarm system entirely if you want to use a different type of fob. This is just my guess.

Yep, a factory option. I sold Toyota in 96 -97.. There was an issue with the fob part breaking off the key part. So, now the fob part is available from the dealer.. so, it's just a fob. the idea was this: 1. the key would act as antenna and give extended range. 2. thought at the time to be less bulky than a key and a fob.. Technology made for big fobs back int he day. 3. it was a novel new idea, and we sold the shit out of it.. People loved it. The securikey+, and permavin systems were huge money makers. Besides Toyota being the best car ever made. (yes, I'm still brain washed to it today.) I submit my 80 corolla, that I bought from a customer for $100, and drove for 200+ miles, would still be around, if I did maintenance on it, regularly. 20-50K old changes and stuff. I abused it. It was $100 car.. Ran like a top and got 35 MPG average. Died at 425K miles.. Also, my buddy Dave being in the million mile club with his 84 x-cab 4x4 pickup... Anyway, check with your Dealer they can get it.

Wow - what a great coincidence. I bought a 1997 4runner for my daughter and recently the key fob died/broke and I did my research, made my calls and found a replacement Elvat 6B in Houston (i'm in Aventura, Florida) ... went out a few months ago to program it and never could get past step 1 of the remote programming (red light switch 6 times, one beep, push lock button = one horn beep). I tried the reset codes on page 8 and again no luck I know that the new remote is communicating with the car as when I push the lock button the lights come on for 30 seconds ...... any ideas greatly appreciated!
