Chrome thing? Is that really as specific as you can be. From your pic it must either be the license plate surround or the bumper, either would qualify as a chrome thing.

I have never had to or wanted to remove either the bumper or tag piece, but if it's the chrome piece around the tag you're talking about, then I'm fairly sure you'll to remove it from within. Pop off the trim piece on the inside of the rear hatch and then unbolt the metal covering to expose the inner workings of the tailgate. Should be pretty easy from there.

Good luck

Just leave it on it looks PIMP:biggrin2: If you dont wont to just tape it off and spray paint it, I usually have a fetish with rockguard spray, I use it on just about everthing.

yeah the chrome thing surrounding where the license plate should be. Mine isn't chrome, but plastic and the paint is chipping. I plan to sand it down and repaint it.

Chrome thing. Ha ha. Proper terminology, aside, I've been there and had it off. It wasn't fun to remove though... You should really have someone else there to help. You're gonna have to remove the rear hatch panel from inside. That's not hard. Unscrew the bolt holding the pull down strap, then pop off the panel by pulling. I didn't mention, but you need to have the window up. It's then a matter of squeezing the clippies that hold the panel on, and pushing them through their holes. This is where your helper comes in. They will hold the panel from coming back and clipping itself back in. You've got to find all those clippies from inside. I used needle nosed pliers to squeeze some of the hard to get ones. After you've removed it from the tailgate, unplug the wires for the light, and you're done.

You might wanna take some of the others' advice, and just mask the tailgate and paint from there. It was a crappy job getting that off, and I also broke one of the plastic rivets holding the inside panel on the tailgate.

Good luck!

ha. I just realized your an engineering student. YOU should be telling US how to remove the license plate bezel. Dont sweat it man, you'll figure it out.

That actually does look sweet ebelen. I like it because it gives your truck an even more unique look, but keeps a factory feel. I'm all for the mods that dont look too wild. Nice job!

i hate to hijack a thread, but ebelen1, who makes those rims you have?

I was looking for someone who made a nice set of parrallels that were chunkier looking.

And do you know if they offer them in silve r(NOT CHROME)?

The wheels are made by Jaos. They only come in gun metal and white from what I know.

Hijack off...

Newbie says thanks for the help...

Thanks for this; I just got my plate and had stuck it in the window...and it fell down! So I had to pull off the cover on the liftgate to get it and could not have done it without this.

Sincerely,
Idiot.
