How do I turn off horn and beep when locking\unlocking doors?

How do I turn off the horn and the beeping sound that is made when locking or unlocking my 2000 4R? Its driving me crazy and in the owner's manual it states that it can be turned down by the dealer. Of course I don't want to take it to the dealer so I figured I would ask the experts. I did try to search the forum with no luck. Any help is appreciated.

This is located in the back left of the engine bay if you are looking at the engine from the front of the car. Simply unplug and use some saran wrap to cover up both ends so they don't get wet. This got rid of my beep. Hope this helps

I've disabled my keyless entry chirp on my 4Runner too just like how KellyJ mentioned above. Just unplug the chirp module and no more beep!

OK, that does turn off the beeping sound, but is there also a way to turn the horn part off. Thats the one that really bugs me, and my neighbors I'm sure.....Thanks for the information.

When does your horn sound? My horn does not sound unless I press the panic button on the back of my keyless entry remote?

And BTW, I have the same remote as pictured in my post above. I also do not have a factory alarm.

could have an aftermarket alarm piggybacked on to the stock keyless system. DEI used to sell one of these under the hornet brand name a while back. Not sure what they still have out, but that could explain the horn and beep both.

If the horn is beeping when you arm/disarm the system, then you've got the infamous "Gulf States Alarm" package.
