All he did was fund a dog fighting ring.
You are wrong! Not only did he finance the fighting ring, he personally killed dogs that didn't perform good enough for him!
Vick Personally Killed at Least 7 Dogs

For me the difference is free choice. To some extent my subjective opinion of a "chicken's" intellect mixes into the equation. That's why I consider the "chicken" thing a tiny bit less offensive.
IMHO the Native Americans had it right, animals are a gift and a necessary component to survival and therefore they deserve being treated with dignity/respect.
The other thing I would add is that anything bred by us, for us, is here because of and for us. As the ones being gifted or evolved, however you like, with the superior intellect it's our moral obligation to be good stewards... In my perfect world I’d still eat steak but the killing process would be as humane/painless/non-traumatic as possible. I am not a tree hugging, PETA person but I do have a high level of empathy for the gift.
Stallworth... He was drunk and killed a person with a car. Is that a more socially acceptable crime than killing dogs? Or is it that it happens more frequently and there isn't the outrage?
Stallworth did a terrible crime, my soon-to-be brother-in-law was buried this morning, marriage was set for next month, the victim of a drunk driver. I've been thinking about this and feel the difference was intent, the drunk driver, while being an idiot, didn't plan on killing him. Vick's crime, while not as horrific, was intentional and ongoing.
I love dogs and all animals but he deserves a chance but any little f up and :hello:for good
If a player commits a felony where another person or animal is harmed they should be banned.
Playing is a privilege. they abused it. Good luck in their next career. The dumb ass who killed a man while driving drunk gets a year off...........what kind of example is that? can children learn from that? Spin their head around. Many of the doctors where I have worked will kick a jerk out of the ER teach them a lesson. This is a tough world. Giving these flagrant felons a slap on the wrist is offensive.
(removes soapbox, stands down, disarms)
Like OJ, Vick will be back in the news at some point. People do NOT change.
My wife said to me once, "Yep, life is not fair, that is why they make different size bras".18 months for dog fighting. 2yrs for shooting yourself in the leg, Plaxico Burress. Who says life is fair?
Well said.......just like Mike Tyson.....once a thug; always a thug. Vick was one of the most exciting things to happen in the Falcons organization in many many years, but I knew right away....something was fishy. Dealing/using drugs....pimping, something illegal/immoral. I KNEW there was something from the very beginning. Too bad.

Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. It's so easy to judge people whom you cannot even begin to relate to isn't it. Again, I don't want to condone what Vick did but I'd imagine it can be a little difficult sometimes when you are the highest paid quarterback in the NFL at what 24 or 25 years old. Its unfortunate but the world we live in, the prominent athletes in the country get away with mostly whatever they want, whenever they want and sometimes I'd imagine the line that you wouldn't normally cross can become a little bit harder to realize. Maybe Vick will always be a "thug" but he should at least be given a chance first. After all isn't that what our judicial system is about. Should everyone who gets convicted of a crime just be put to death and cleared from society. I sure as hell don't want to pay for them to sit in prison for the rest of their life so what do you do? It's about rehabilitation and second chances.
