How do you think about this interior scratch from dealership service?

Brought back my 10-day old 2021 to dealer for the “new vehicle check-in”.

After the “health check” they vacuumed interior. And the metal vacuum cleaner tube left a 15cm long scratch on a plastic panel.

/Touch it can feel the crack, cannot be wiped off. /

I understand the lot attendant has to clean tons of cars everyday, but this is kinda reckless.

How do you think about this?

When I took delivery of mine, there was a scratch on the panel above the glove box. I didn't notice it when I took delivery in the dark. I took it back to the dealer to show them, and they ordered a new part and replaced it without issue.

This is my first Toyota, I am very disappointed in how easily the interior scratches. I haven’t done anything different then any other vehicle I’ve owned, with the exception of now I carry towels and blankets in the back of the 4Runner to wrap up objects that are close to touching any interior parts. I will have this suv for 1 year in February and I’m thinking the interior will be in the same shape as my 6 year old BMW X5 by then.
Other then that it’s a fine vehicle.

It's your call whether it bothers you enough to bring back and make a stink, but I'd guess if you applied some interior cleaner/plastic protectant it would go away or be much less noticeable.

It's one of the drawbacks of this vehicle. You look at the interior the wrong way and it either scratches or shows dirt. The thing is though, it's an off-road vehicle and if you drive it as such, that's going to happen. Gotta pay to play.

I'd add that I recently bought my 4Runner after owning multiple luxury sport sedans where every little scratch and dent caused me damn near heart palpitations. I've already received a few minor dings and scratches here and there on the 4Runner and now it's MUCH easier for me to take them in stride. As dumb as it sounds, it's actually kind of liberating to no longer worry about it as much.

Bring it to the service director's attention. Do not ask to speak with a service advisor, service manager. ASK FOR THE SERVICE DIRECTOR DIRECTLY OR THE G.M OF THE DEALERSHIP and bring this to their attention. 100% they will fix this without question

Why? You just bought a brand new vehicle from them...last thing they want is to lose future business from you (or friends via word of mouth if you praise this dealership for the shopping experience). They will write it off as "customer damage" and replace it or write a check in your name to cover the cost of the part needing to be repaired

Is it worth the time and emotional mess to go back? Grumble about it, try to clean it and do something fun instead.

Yeah I noticed that too. I think they tried too hard to make the interior "soft" in texturing and appearance. Coming from a Murano, which had really hard plastic everywhere, while not very inviting it weathered a lot of abuse well.

Second scratch won't bother you.

Do inform the dealer that they have an out of control cleaner, save the next guy a headache.

If you already took delivery they don't have to and unlikely to do jack about that. Don't ask how I know this. My cars stay as far from dealers as possible to avoid frustration such as yours.

sorry man-------I hate taking the 4runner in as there is always something that gets damaged. I have a limited, because I need all time 4 wd, and I had them mount new tires, and while removing the lug nut they basically destroyer the black finish on the rims surrounding the lug nuts.......on every wheel!

So if that piece is easy to remove, pm me and I swap and will send you mine........because I don't care anymore about the small stuff.
