how does the stability control work ??

All 03 (and beyond) 4runner have stability control. But anyone know how it works and when it gets in to work ??

My truck was fish-tailing a little bit the other day when I was making a sharp left turn, and the road was slippery due to the early morning rain. I was driving at 10-20 mph because I just started from stop. I asked my dealer and they said that it's not a guaranteed system, it just helps to bring everything back on control easily. And it does not prevent the truck from tipping over....

My buddy's Acura MDX claims to be able to do that. If the sensor senses that the car is gonna tip over, it forces the car to slow down. Not sure if that's true. But can we do that with today's technology ??

My old 97 4runner crashed because of this kind of "fish-tailing" and eventually got out of control on slippery roads (4x2, not 4x4).

It's very helpful, but does not take away from the driver's responsibility. Also, I found a lot of things can effect:
When I was driving in the snow to the hospital I lost control of the car because I did not realize my rear right tire was half flat.
When I drive on the Serkorski Bridge on the Merritt Blvd, I feel pretty comfortable, but even though I have that, I still find the truck sliding to the right. This bridge is bad for it says slippery when wet, but actually it's even slippery when dry.

The Acura system is no different from the ones on Toyota 4runner since 2001.

Stability control ASSIST you in preventing oversteer and understeer...HOWEVER, it cannot alter the basic principle of physics nor overcome lost of tire traction.
