How does you 4Runner ride?

Rides kind of like my lifted Jeep. Though with the spacers my dad put up front instead of going with new springs/shocks (coilovers or whatever), it has a lil too much preload up front for my liking when it goes over bumps.
 
My OME 890's ride very nice with the Rough Country Nitro 9000 rear shocks. Not stiff at all. Honestly, with those shocks, it rides the same as my stock coils with Bilstein HD's.

Instead of paying out the butt for OME shocks, everyone should just buy the Rough Country stuff. (assuming it holds up for the long haul)

RC sucks, at least their Jeep stuff does. Springs are always sagging, they send out shocks too long for the application so you are bottoming out the shock and breaking bar pins. I don't know if their T4r stuff is any better but their jeep stuff is crap.

Buy quality and cry once. Buy crap and cry 4 times.

Well, WheelersOffroad sells them, and they pretty much only sell stuff that works well. A shock is a shock....mine are the correct length for my application, and they seem to be valved correctly. The examples you gave for Jeep stuff sounds like poor design integration....not necessarily poor build quality. Yes if you're bottoming out the shock all the time, it will eventually break!

I guess if for some reason they blow out prematurely, I'll get some Rancho's or Skyjackers. Or maybe even some Bilstein 5100's. Rear shocks are easy to change. I'm anticipating that these will work well for a long time though....
 
Ive asked this before, but didnt get much feedback. Is anyone else on here running KYB gas shocks? Im interested in hearing how they ride from someone else' opinion
 
Front- taco springs with a daystar spacer and bilsteins
Rear- Lc shocks and Lc 8 wrap springs.
285 E rated mud tires..
Love the way it rides, the only thing keeping it from an 8 is that I have no sway bar on the rear so I get a lot of body roll. But the overall ride quality from the suspension is perfect.
 
Ok, I just got mine, so I'm somewhat new to 4Runners. It's 2002 SR5 Sport Edition with 95K on it.
I must say that before I had '96 Chevy Astro LT it was a luxury passenger van and even though it had 200k on it the ride was soft and smooth.
Now with my new T4R I feel like I'm feeling every bump or crack on the road. I feel them much sharper then it was on my old car.
I checked the shocks (visualy), they're not leaking, so I don't know maybe that's how this SUV was meant to ride? Or my shocks just too old and need replacement?
 
I'm running Tundra coilovers on the front and Lexus coils/LC shocks on the rear.

To me it rides great. It does feel a bit more stiff than my stock, but my stock suspension was really soft. Now it handles load much better and is just as good around corners. There is a little bit more body roll, but it's hardly noticeable. I drive a truck not a car, so I'm happy with the ride.

@Swampy Swimmer, the T4R is a truck and typically rides like one. The suspension is set up much differently than your old van and will feel "rougher" or more stiff for sure.
 
Mine is around a 5-6, depending on the road surface. Its the only thing I can find to complain about, and could be due to the 101K mi. on original shocks/springs. Wife doesn't mind it really at all, saying she "likes to feel the road, anyway". (She hated the 'boat' ride of the Buick Park Avenue we had previously, but I loved it as my daily driver in Houston). While it really glides smooth on nicely paved roads, and handles moderate dips and rises just fine, ANY AND ALL small imperfections in the road surface are felt immediately and harshly. As our family car and wife's daily driver, I'm concerned about the safety issues related to "the jitters". When driving on a road that has multiple, repetative imperfections, the car actually feels like its bouncing off-axis, or sideways. While I may be exaggerating a bit about how bad I think the ride is, there is NO WAY that these T4R's of ours drove like this when they were new, so I'm thinking new shocks and even springs should be a major improvement. For general street driving and the occasional beach or camping trip, I'm considering Tokico Trekmasters, from previous posts on the subject.
 
I'm going to have to give it some time, frankly; it rides very sure-footed and firm, yet I do feel most imperfections in the road.

HOWEVER, my '04 F150 is the same way, and I love(d) the way it rides, so I'm not sure what is 'baseline' for this. Most likely I'll just continue to monitor the vehicle, learn how to tell what is 'good' and what is 'needs replaced' for this vehicle, and go from there.
 
136k on stock suspension, and mine rides like crap.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was this unhappy with the ride of a stock vehicle that I owned. I feel every dip, bump and hump. Back roads in my old trooper were a blast - it was soft and just rolled over the bumps. This 4runner tosses me all over the place.

Ride quality is one of the biggest aspects of a vehicle. However, I love this 4runner so much, the ride quality is secondary. I'll replace the whole suspension when I get the money next spring.
 
If I'd answered this last Thursday, I would have picked #6 - jittery, bouncy, and somewhat unpredictable. That was with stock suspension after 138K miles.

As of Friday, I'd have to pick #3. I have OME 881/906 on e-rated tires. Feel firmly planted and nice and solid.
 
883 front and 891 rear.

Stiff as fck, just how I like it.

Needs Addco sway bars for better body roll control, with some disconnects for the trail.
 
Before getting my new tires, I would have said that my suspension was stiff and horrible. I could feel every bump there was and then some. After my set of Hankooks about 2 months ago, it feels like I got new suspension!

I will put it in the words of my good friend, 64 years old, who was driving part way on a long trip.
"Boy this thing drives good!"

Don't forget that a good set of quality tires can make a drastic difference too.
 
stock springs with 224k on them... just got new shocks put in. im gonna go with stiff and strong still. shocks make a big difference!
 
883 Front Springs with Ome Sport Struts
Lx450 9 Wraps with Factory Lc Shocks (all black)
285/75/16 Km2's Set at around 26lbs of air

I absolutely love the ride and in my opinion it could not get any better. Feels firm and predictable but soaks up harsh bumps and potholes like they are nothing. I actually like the ride better then my saws i had on my last 4runner with the same rear setup. Id recommend this setup to anyone. I was worried the 883s would be to stiff but even with the stock bumper they ride fantastic.

What tires were you running before, and what are you running now? I feel like my tires may be part of the problem with my ride too
 
Calling out to anyone running bilstein shocks. How do they ride in comparison to any other shocks youve had? Compared to OME, trekmasters, etc . . . Are they the best bang for the buck? Im thinking of replacing my KYB's with bilsteins in the near future and would appreciate the input
