How far has your runner been from home?

When mine was my DD, I shipped it to BC for work for a few months then drove it back to Ontario. About 4,600 km or 2,900 miles.

I also did an East coast tour from Ontario, about 5,000 km or 3,100 miles AND I flopped it on the trip, in Nova Scotia. Not my favourite trip...

These days. I run about 300 km or 190 miles on a typical wheeling day.

My old 86 with 22RE left sunny Florida and arrived 1200 miles later to 12" of snow in Kansas...where it broke...then i fixed her and drove it back without problem.

My new 89 with 3VZE drove it from Orlando to Jacksonville, about 150 miles, when I picked it up. Then the radiator failed. This 3.0 doesn't give me the same confidence the the other one did.

Early last year, took my all original drivetrain, zero rebuild, original clutch 1987 with 268K on the clock from the Bay Area California up north all the way east to Virginia. Then down to Georgia. Left Georgia with a 5x8 enclosed trailer holding a quad and packed full of household goods. Went down to Mississippi then west to SoCal and back up to Norcal.

Not a single hiccup, only one scare. Down on the 10 with the trailer, I miscalculated the fuel and got in this really long stretch. Found a fuel place literally stuttering on fumes. Bet your ass I bought a 5 gallon can of fuel for the road after that.

Google states my route was about 6,352 miles. Changed oil and rotated tires in Virginia.

I drove my 1986 4Runner with 343k from northern Virginia to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I had just finished changing all of the drivetrain fluids, and literally had drove 10 miles on my new clutch the day before I left. I had no problems what so ever, even got 26 mpg on the trip with all of traveling gear, and tools. I was a round trip of 2,000, and now am debating if I want to drive to the Toyota Owners and Restorers Club, (TORC) Toyotafest in Long Beach California in May. I will see what happens.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I had to chime in. Haven't been too far from home in the 4R (3.0L V6) YET (read: HUGE plans coming), but I have done NUMEROUS 2500 - 3000 (1500 - 1800mile) round trips since picking her up in June of last summer. Which probably helped towards a total of 35000 kms (22000 miles) I've put on in the last 13 months.

My 89 pickup however (3.0L V6 450,000kms)...6 trips across the country (Toronto - Vancouver), 1 return trip through Canada and 2 return trips through our neighbours to the south. Add to that countless road trips around Ontario, BC, and plenty of destinations in the US of A.

Miss that truck, loved that truck, wish I didn't wreck it...

I bought my 1988 on July 1st last year , loaded the other half up and headed to bend Oregon and got married on the 4th came home on the 7th I checked the oil and the water and the trans fluid before we left home looked good, so we did the 1664 mile round trip plus side trips in the forests and back trails never even thought about anything going wrong with it .

2k miles one way + a week of wheeling + 2k miles home = much fun.

957 miles from Kansas City, MO to Moab, UT then the drive back. Never going to drive 14 hrs. straight in one day again because of that trip.

I've made the 13 hour drive to my parents house in Eugene a couple times. It's brutal, for sure. I'm sure it's worse when 2/3rds of the drive is across Kansas and eastern Colorado.

1400 miles...with a leaking valve cover gasket, and a "hole" in my power right before the turbo spools...so i either had to be in it, or out of it...very little "cruising". Made it through the Smokies in 5th gear...only had to downshift to get up grade twice.

Azle, TX (west of Fort Worth) to Beltville, MD (north of DC)...MADE IT.

14 hr. drive from KC to Grand Junction, CO. Kansas and eastern Colorado is horrible (no offense to those who live in that area). Barely any trees or civilization as far as the eye can see. I was thrilled when I finally spotted the outline of the Rocky Mountains in the distance.
The last couple of hours was scary. Driving 75mph in the dark on the twisty winding highway on the other side of the mountains.
