How far is my speedometer/odometer off? Here's your answer!

So how do you know it's the gps that's off? Maybe both of the Yotas are off. My Taco is also off by about that same amount. Seems Toyota likes to run the speedos fast. Maybe it's so the gas mileage looks better or warranty expires sooner.

Drove over 600+ miles over the weekend. My GPS was reading 70MPH and the Speedo was at 71MPH. This is with 265/70/16 tires. I havn't read the door jam to see what was factory yet.

Granted that GPS Satellites are Thousands of Miles above us, but they use Triagulation to pin point your exact location. Well... Within 500yards of your exact spot. Military GPS will get you within feet of your location. I still trust my GPS to give me an accurate read out for my MPH.

i have no reason to think that the yotas are off. it makes a diff on who makes them and how close they want them to be. i know mine is off but not by much, it knows where i am but not exactly how fast i am going. :boxer:

As Bryan said, Most speedometers are 3-5% fast from the factory.

i would still believe the vehicle than a chunk of metal 23,500 mi above me thats not a special use satellite such as google earth or military

had a cop tell me that one shld travel 1 mile in 60 sec at 60 mph...
i travel 9/10ths of a mile in 1 mile at 60mph; so i lose 10 miles every 100 miles on my odometer... easy calculation for me.
i imagine i am running 5mph over my speedometers actual reading...
i had 285's on 16's before; and now 35's on 16's

Well if I'm 17% off with 33.5s, You have got to be off by more than 10% with 35s. At least I would think.

I'm hearing alot of people say they're 3mph or 5mph off after bigger tires...but the difference is variable, it's a percentage...you may be 8mph off at 70 of you're 4mph off at 55, yanno?

I think thats strange. But cool, that the vehicle speed sensor is at the wheel

its not true.
