How Ghetto are spacer lifts?

I'll preface this by saying i have a daystar 2.5/1.5 on my truck.

But i've been hearing that spacer lifts to the 4x4 world are the same as Huge wings on honda civics in the performance world.

I don't wheel my truck often but once in a while i like to play off road.

Does anyone actually do any wheeling with their 4runners using spacer lifts? any problems?

Spacer lifts are just for looks! I am planning to put Cornfed 3/2, but I know it will not be for off-roading, even if I want to. Well a little gravel road and not too harsh terrain...may be.:cowboy:

So.....

considering the 4runner is a pretty capable off roader from the factory....does a spacer lift compromise any of it's capability?
 
Couldn't disagree more. Spacer lifts aren't meant for hard core off roading, but they do increase the capability some. They don't offer added flex like new shocks and coils thus are often said to be worthless. They do provide suspension lift and give you more clearance off road, so there is some value. A lot of people do run spacer lifts purely for looks, but I see nothing wrong with that either, definitely not in the same class as what's mentioned above.
 
I couldn't be more happy with my Cornfed 3/2 lift. Mine was definitely purchased mainly for looks. I always felt the stock height looked too low. I love the lifted appearance every time I walk up to it. It does help in snow and does not change the factory ride. If I wanted to build an off road truck I would do something different, but for my daily driver the $200 lift kit was money very well spent.
 
I wouldn't compare spacer lifts with the big wings on a civic since the wings in this comparison has no functional benefit other than looks. There are many members that started offroading with spacers since its an inexpensive way of adding more clearance which is a functional benefit.
 
I'm in the boat that I put a spacer lift on my truck due to ground clearance going up a badly maintained dirt road to our property. I was noticing trying to navigate the giant ruts in the road I hit & bent my skid plate a bit, so I wanted the added security of having the ground clearance for when my car is loaded down with people and/or gear.

It's a cheap way to get ground clearance without having to waste the life left on my shocks. I'm at 70k, and should have at least another year or so on them.

so does the daystar 2.5-1.5 hurt off road capability at all? Will anything mess up when off roading with a spacer lift? Is flexing bad with a spacer lift?
