I change oil at 3k to 3.5k, run mobile 1 synthetic, and run 10w30.
If you can get 5k on an oil change with no noticeable change in noise at startup that’s probably fine. I honestly don’t know, never tested it.

My thought is that 5w oil and 5k changes are great for 200k throw away cars. But I run my rigs out north of 300k so I want the added lubrication.

Never ran a Toyota filter, don’t know who makes them. Your looking for a filter that has a good reputation for not allowing drain back. I tend toward Bosch filters.

Yes you can run Lucas full time, sub 1 quart oil for 1 of Lucas, or 1/2 quart oil for 1/2 quart Lucas.

Yes you can dump a bottle of Marvels or Seafoam in about 500 before you change oil assuming your not too full. A touch over the high dot is ok, but you don’t want to be a quart over, I don’t think.


For the fellow who uses Seafoam for storage stabilizer in non-ethanol gas.
Seafoam is ~20% alcohol.
If your goal is no alcohol you might want to try Stabil rather than Seafoam.

If you run full synthetic and change every 3000 miles, you are wasting money. Now a days 7500-10,000 is the recommended interval minimum for full syn. depending on the oil and filter, you can go 15-25k. Check out Amsoil and their filters.
 
Longest I’ve let my truck sit is a little over three weeks. I noticed a very slight slowness in turning over, which I suspect is the battery. I did check the voltage on the battery and the alternator output, both appear to be normal. The truck came with a battery that was about a year old, and it’s a no-name brand. I plan to upgrade it to an Optima battery.
 
So far I am holding the record....:D. Lol. It's the little things that excite me..;)

~9 months while I was deployed....

I disconnected the battery and left it on the base parking lot - come back, hooked up the battery, fired right up... then used it to jump 3 other guys' cars.

After I put gas in it. It fired right up. The environment it was in was decent in my garage

If they sit for long periods of of time like this. It's best to spin them every once in a while. Even if you dont start them. Spin the engine like 10 to 20 seconds to get that oil pumping every few months. Keeps everything covered in oil and keeps your seals from drying out.

Completely understandable. Most people dont have 5 3rd gens. When I take them off the road for frame repairs. Sometimes that takes quite a while to get that completely done and all back together. :) I not in a hurry though I rather just do it all once and be done with that project. :) Then do the frame rebuild in sections. I have done it both ways though. :)
