How low can you go?

I've had mine in the single digits before. What worried me more though was the fact that I could see about 1/16" of daylight between the bottom division on the fuel guage and the top of the needle, almost resting at the 0V position. The yellow light should flash at that point.

I had mine to about the same mainer and also filled up about 21 gallons. This was about 1.5 years ago.

I've gone at 0 on the range + 10 miles before. Maybe a couple of times.

Plus the strainer on the intake of the pump would have caught 99% of that what was in there.
Unless you have just got into some nasty gas or your tank is corroding from the inside out the chances of getting anything to your injector past the pickup screen and fuel filter is minimal from my experience.
I have run my 4Runner down to 0 and beyond a number of times and regularly run it down into the teens and have never put more than 22.5 gallons in the 23 gallon tank, and I top of the tank every time in every vehicle I have ever owned. Not all the way into the filler neck but 1-3 gallons past where the pump clicks off. Never had a problem with the fuel systems.
I'm not saying it does flash, I'm saying it should. I'm sure there is at least another 50 miles left after the computer reads zero for legal reasons. I would never run it this low however because even if there isn't any crud in the tank you can still run the risk of burning up your fuel pump.mainer said:

I've run mine down to about 10 and it took 21.5 gallon's and alot of cash to fill it. I use 2 full tank's a week on my truck.
You know when I got my 4R I would fill it and the range would show like 310-320 but now I fill it and it show 295 pretty consistantly , wonder why that is ?????

Has the fuel economy number stated by your computer dropped? I'm pretty sure the computer just takes your average fuel economy multiplied by the estimated volume of fuel in the tank to get the number for range. The longer you go without resetting the fuel economy number, the closer to "acutal" it is (not that its giving you a correct value, but it will level off at some number based on your driving habits).Falls said:

My V-6 Runner usually reads about 380-400 range after a fill up. I filled it up just today. I reset the mileage meter every time. The new range was 392 miles. I checked when I got home and had driven 28.5 miles and the remaining range was 357. The difference between what I actually went and the range remaining was only 5 miles. I account that to the oversized tires and agressive driving on the way home from work. Before the increase in tire size it would always read 395-420. The calculated mileage on the tank today was 17.43 mpg, the 4Runner said 19.3 mpg. 17.89 gallons and 312 miles. The remaining range was about 50 something. I actually filled up before E this time. Wife needs the Runner tommorrow.
