How many 3rd rows?

How many of you guys have the 3rd row seating? I'm just thinking how rare it is.

My used 2007 4 runner came with the extra seats. They sit in my garage. I've never use them.

3rd Row here as well. I think they have been used once, by my 11yr old daughter, who just wanted to ride in them just because she could.

Quick question-if the 3rd row did not come with the truck (O6 ltd in my case) can the 3rd row be still be installed? I have the shelf, not sure if that matters.

No the sides of the cargo area and the floor are different. It would be alot of money involved in order to install the factory 3rd row seats in a 2 row 4runner.

We got the third row as well. We rarely use them. During the summer last year, the kids didn't want to sit back there because the a/c didn't reach back there. They also stated the ride was very bumpy.

I have a third row as well. They are nice to have if needed, but I've only filled all of the seats once.

I believe third row on 4R is useless and very uncomfortable
If I want a third row I will buy a bigger vehicle...like a Sequoia or Land Cruiser.

3rd Row Opinion

I have the 3rd rows, and they're handy in a pinch but not practical for hauling people on a regular basis. One thing to note, the 2nd row seat is different (they tumble forward rather than fold flat) in the 4gen runner if you have the 3rd row option.

Also, the 2nd row headrests are much taller than the 2nd row headrests in 4runners without the 3rd row. It was bothersome to me so I bought a set of 2nd row headrests from a folddown seat from a guy on this forum; alas the headrests do not fit (except for the middle) because the post spacing is different--they are closer together. (Why there are so many different headrest post spacings/post diameters is a mystery to me but that's a different rant...).

But, you can make them fit.

Here's how I modified mine (photos below). (1) Bend the posts outward, away from each other (2) Insert a spacer (hardwood block, etc.--I used a pipe clamp with the claws turned outward) betwee the posts; the spacer should be the same width as the between the post holes. You can use the existing headrest to measure. Then bend the back around the spacer. (3) Shows the result, compared to the existing high-back headrest.

They do not slide quite as smoothly as the originals (probably because the new spacing isn't 100% the same), but they work just fine and give me better rear visibility.

I'd just like to swap out the tumble-forward seats for the fold flat seats. The tumble-forward seats are very uncomfortable.

That's a good thought. Do you know if the fold flat seats will fit (e.g., same mounting holes, etc.) without modification? Ever done a side by side comparison?

Don't think it's possible. The floor is different on the 4Runners with the third row seat.
