How many have an external transmission cooler?

I also vote B&M. A side benefit is that they have a sort of thermostat built in to divert at least some of the flow straight back to the transmission until it warms up.

I have a question on this. - Vehicle - 2006 4Runner, 4.0 v6, 44,00 miles.

Yes it is low miles, but I am having to replace my radiator due to lower drivers side leak.

While doing the radiator, I am going to add a Hayden 679 Transmission cooler as well. Do I have route lines to the radiator builtin atf cooler? Or, can I just route directly to the Hayden 679? Usage will be small, light weight towing - mowers, small trailer. I'm mainly doing this to prolong the life of the tranny.

I did research this but really never found a thread to address it.

Thanks

My tranny cooler lines under the front crossmember are rotted. My local dealer want $90 for the lines.

So I'm thinking ditch the lines and buy a external cooler.

I have a fundamental question. The factory setup is intended to maintain a 195 degree fluids temp for coolant and tranny, right? What does sunjecting the tranny fluid to ambient temps, variable at best, do to tranny performance? Are we messing with nature here?

I ask in ignorance so lambast me with facts and figure if you can so I can move ahead with this mod, OK?

Stock transmission cooler first, then the external cooler.

This will generally maximize the cooling performance of the coolers.

The factory setup with just a loop in the radiator does not maintain 195 deg F trans temps. Otherwise why would the V8 have a small external cooler with the same trans? (which most would say is not really adequate for heavy duty either)
