I picked up my 2002 4Runner Limited Edition last year, with 137k miles.

Since then, I've done quite a bit of maintenance on it to make it a reliable daily driver (listed below)

- Valve Cover Gaskets
- Front Struts
- Spark Plugs
- Power steering flush
- Brake fluid flush
- Rear Shocks
- Front & Rear Springs
- Oil Pan & Transmission Pan gasket


*This weekend I had a leaking radiator that I had to replace, at 151k miles on the car.

2000 4WD 4runner 193,121. I've had it for 2 years so far. She's my second/daily but hoping to get a lot more out of her.

I don't see lower ball joints or timing belt on your repair list. Most people replace the lower ball joints for peace of mind if the maintenance history is unknown. When a lower ball joint fails it typically causes a lot of damage. Timing belt condition is easy to check. You can unbolt the upper timing cover and move it back enough to look at the belt condition.

I actually just called the Toyota service department today to check on the LBJ recall, and they claim the recall was done in 2009. Would I still need to replace the LBJ? I would replace the lower ball joints if it were me. The grease in your current ones is probably really dried up and degraded. Most people recommend at the longest 10 years/100K miles for OEM lower ball joint service interval. I can post up some lower ball joint part numbers, torque values, and repair video if that's something you are interested in doing yourself.

OEM only on the parts. If you are having it done at anywhere besides the toyota dealership I would buy the OEM parts and bring it to them along with the lower ball joint torque numbers. This will ensure you get genuine OEM toyota parts and they have the correct fastener torque as there is a couple different torque values depending on the year. You'll need the following:
04005-02235 (x1) (both lower ball joints)
90171-A0005 (x2) (lower ball joint castle nut 112 ft/lb)
90119-10933 (x8) (lower ball joint to control arm bolts 37 ft/lb)
I recommend McGeorge toyota for parts Select Parts Category - 2002 Toyota 4Runner | Toyota Parts but you can also check camelback toyota, concinelli toyota, and partsouq as well.

You might also consider requesting they apply Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 (or equivalent) to the bolts and add witness marks with a paint pen.

97 SR5 Mileage

I currently have 384,000 exactly on my '97 SR5 AUTO. Routine maintenance and minor repairs only but the transmission finally went out!!

Time to do a trans and engine swap. She's been such a good girl!!
