How Many Miles on your 4th Gen?

Is a drain/fill/filter replacement something that can be done without taking it to the stealership? Having the sealed transmission seems like it would be hard to judge how much fluid to put in etc. I have 85k and don't think the transmission fluid has ever been touched.
I've never taken my to the dealership. It's not a difficult job, but hard to do without a lift. I take mine to a transmission place. When the local Nissan, Toyota or Honda dealer needs to rebuild a customers transmission...they send it to this guy.
Any good transmission place will know exactly what to do. This tranny requires a special fluid also. Make sure they use the correct fluid. There are only a 2-3 companies that make it. The fluid you buy from the dealer is made by one of them. If you feel better...just get the Toyota fluid...the other stuff is just as expensive.

2003 4Runner - 197,500 (inching towards 200k!)
Issues:
Frozen front calipers (on my 3rd frozen caliper), leaking shocks (not really a biggie). Next big repair is replacing leaking valve gaskets.

2005 sport edition. Just passed 65k. Other then the two car accidents (my uncle rear ended someone, just enough to put a slight crack in the front bumper, and i got rear ended) the only things i had to do were oil changes and i changed the tires twice.

'06 Sport Edition 4.7L, 102k just bought it about a month ago
T-Belt, water pump, windshield replaced right away, and about a 1/2 lb of grease pumped into the rear slip yoke, no more thuds (for awhile). Trans fluid, filter, engine oil changed just before I got it.

03 Sport, 228,000 and climbing!
2004 Limited - 145,000 miles. Only surprise was a burned out Rear Differential at 80,000 miles. Gasket around filler plug popped and oil leaked out, on a long trip to Quebec. By the time I noticed the high pitched whine, it was dark and the small french speaking town I stopped in was shutting down. With smiles and sign language we acquired the tools and oil to top her off and finished the trip to Matapedia. At the garage there, I learned we fried some of the gears but would be able to make it home. Then I replaced the whole dif it with a used one. I was told there is a vent on top that can clog and cause it to overheat (?). No trouble since.
One of my fishing buddies, who rode up there with someone else and is also a motor head, told me that I shouldn't have any trouble getting home. Of course, when I offered him a ride, he declined!

'06 4.0L Sport Edition - 141k miles (50k miles of those since lifted)
There are some amazing mileage numbers in here. It really speaks to the longevity of these platforms. To date, I have had zero issues besides the normal wear/tear/servicing items. Hoping for many more...

No. California 06' Sport V8 with just a smidge over 107k
Did the timing belt and trans/brake fluid, yada yada at 90K.
Replaced front rotors and pads at 106k, gave her a set of BFG AT KO's at the same time. Battery at 6 years old, just because.
Front and rear bumper covers replaced from parking lot crap. Back glass from ass-clown break in (nothing to steal...) at the library... Fixed....
Nothing else other than regular maintenance. Been a pretty good vehicle.
Thinking of trading in or selling for a 2014 FJ...Dunno....On the fence. I guess if they offered me enough on trade I would...Ain't likely..:lmao:

Bought it with 100k, I've taken to the trails every other weekend its definitely seen its fair share of mud and water. mostly routine maintenance other than one problem with the starter and the cv axle boots cracking.
