I suggest you start a new thread in Off-Topic (since it really isn't a General 4Runner question) titled something like "Considering joining the service, honest opinions requested" or along those lines.

Also consider other forums. There are a lot of forums specifically dedicated to military. This is truck forum which happens to have a lot of military but they aren't exactly the same thing.

I have more to say but I don't want to clutter up this roll call thread.

** OK I do have to say this much ... joining the service will forever alter your relationship path .. forever. I'm not saying for the worse but it is probably the most impacting decision on a relationship besides having children. You will be deployed for 8-14 months (depending on branch & unit), possibly within your first 6 months of joining, that is a very serious thing.

I served 6 years fully active duty during which I went on two deployments, 9 months and then 7. Trust me it is the same for everyone - it is hard on relationships. Many fool themselves into believing their relationship is special and unique. It is not. Some are better at coping than others but it is still very hard on all parties. Start a new thread - get some answers. Good luck.
