Looking to get a 2016 limited. No extras(Running boards,3rd row etc.) I know price varies from region. I'm in Chicago. Just want to get an idea of what people are paying before taxes and fees. Anyone get one under 40k

Not sure if Toyota's moved all 4Runner production to Japan now (highly doubt it) but at least back in 2005 there were still unit VINs which started with "K" (Kentucky - I believe that's what it represented).

Got another question for the general forum though. I'm contemplating an upgrade from my 2005 T4R SE to something more current. The thought of having to deal with car sales people makes me cringe, and honestly puts me off the idea of buying a new car. Anyway, I'm in Southern California pretty close to the Pasadena area. I was curious of any forum members have had good experiences with a particular dealership and / or sales person (internet or otherwise) and can give me a referral. To be fair, I'm not at 100% I will purchase a new vehicle, I'm at about 80%. I just don't know enough of what options / packages are available, haven't test driven anything yet, and I will need to research the value of my current 4Runner.

I was reading an article on Edmunds.com about how to get an internet quote. An internet salesman responded to the article saying how he's a professional, and you have to provide accurate information, and what sets him off about customers looking for quotes. On and on he went. Well, he might be one of the few (very few) car salesman who treat his clients with the respect he expects from his clients. BUT you know what? A stereotype is a stereotype for a reason. I'm sure he's dealt with car salesmen in his formative years before he entered the car-selling game. Sorry for the rant.

Anyway, if anybody's got one of the good ones to recommend please PM me unless you're willing to share their info to the entirety of this forum. Appreciate it.

I'm in So Cal as well and have been trying to figure who to give my business to since I will probably have to order to get the vehicle I want. There's a few dealers, Frontier in Santa Clarita, Hamer in Mission Hills, Longo is a pretty big dealer in So Cal.

One I will not use is DCH Oxnard/ Simi Valley. Bought my last truck there. Was trading in a 2wd Tacoma for a 4wd and gave them the keys to put the car on the lift for inspection. When I wobbled on the deal and was going to leave they refused to give me the keys to my truck. I had to get on the phone with Ventura Sheriff before they gave them up. Scumbags to say the least.

It is like pulling teeth shopping 4Runners. Discounts are obtainable but you have to work really hard, and they're all loaded up with accessories that you may or may not want (particularly Gulf States). If I was shopping a new limited, I would spend an extra few grand and get the Lexus since it's a much, much nicer vehicle.

If you're working a deal on an incoming unit there's no reason the dealership can't specify what accessories you want. I do it all the time for custimers and I'm in GST.

I have a buddy that works at the service department at Longo Lexus (it's the same compound), and he's referred others to someone on the Toyota side. He said unfortunately Longo is big enough that they often won't bend much on price. All I've done to date is try TrueCar but I should probably hit up the sites for the local dealers and get in touch directly with their internet sales department. Also, the little maintenance light on my dash is on and I usually go to Longo for service. I could hit up one of the salesman to give me a test drive I suppose.

StormtroopD and I have been working locally with a dealer in North Alabama on two identical SW TEP's + KDSS + Rear Cargo. Dealer has quoted us $38k + TTL if we get both however they do not want to order, they want to dealer located.

First, thoughts on price?

Secondly, why would they be difficult on ordering?

Anyone reading this thread in SF Bay area should consider Freeman Toyota, call and ask for John Coffaney....no hassles, no haggling, no negotiating...tell him what you want he will order it and give you best price the first time, and no games, no BS, no nothing other than honest straight shooting. I got my TRD about $2k UNDER sticker price which is unheard of anywhere in the state of CA as far as I know.

I picked up a 2016 Trail Premium with KDSS

I was out the door for 41k with a 70k mile extended warranty including all oil changes / service. I thought I got a good deal at the time but now I'm not so sure lol

Accessory / navigation questions

I'm not settled on it quite yet, but anyone know if the cargo sliding tray is an option outside of a package? Also, I was watching a Youtube video and got the impress there are actually two levels of this sliding tray? It looks cool and convenient to have but not sure how practical it really is. I don't haul a whole lot but occasionally I have those trips to the Lowes for soil and paver stones.

Other thing is, regarding the navigation system. I've heard the head unit, at least on some other makes, is the same on many of their models. All that is required is to "activate" it -- whether that's a chip or some peripheral that needs to be attached. Any truth to this?

It isn't. If you do not get it from factory/port with the rear sliding tray then you either have to go without or try to figure out which parts you need, what changes are required to put it in and do a custom job. Possible? Probably but probably much higher cost than what the package runs for when ordered with it.

I picked up my 2016 Trail Premium a couple of weeks ago for $40,100 before tax & license. MSRP was $42,055. I negotiated with several local dealers and that was the best I could do. 4Runners are pretty popular around here. Several were sold while I was negotiating, so it made it difficult to grind them down too much.

Is that with or without KDSS?
