How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Just got this from this salesman.

I showed him the truecar.com price. (cars.com)
Dealers fill their own true car price in , not true car they use it to get you in door then tell you they dont have it and charge more to go get it.

Thanks.
True car says 2,879 off of sticker so I offered him $2500 and he said NO $2000
Man they drive a hard bargain with these things...

Try edmunds price promise. get the lowest price certificate from each dealer then take that to your local dealer to price match.

I tried TrueCar and Edmunds Price Promise, but they are only for dealers who signed up. The only dealer in a 300 mile radius that had a 2015 TEP MGM wouldn't honor the price, though they did give me $2,500 off MSRP (because the 2016s are right around the corner). Otherwise they were more or less jerks with the whole transaction.

EDIT: Thinking back, they were more than jerks. Situations like that really make me appreciate and applaud Elon Musk's efforts to only sell Tesla vehicles directly and skip the whole 3rd-party stealership concept. Nobody likes that process, it's sleazy, gross, and uncomfortable. I also appreciate Steve Jobs's model of the Apple stores, and controlling the user experience. Anyway, I'll stop before I veer too far off topic.

I'm currently in the process of negotiating on a 16 TE and have a few questions. Current offer is 36,750 OTD, brings the basic price down to 34,721 before TTL and the dealer doc fee of 600. I feel like this is decent, but considering the 4runner is 250 miles away and will have to be driven to the dealer I'm talking to, I'm hesitant. What do y'all think?

Edit to add, this one has no additions at all, just a base Trail Edition Silver 4runner. MSRP is apparently 37195 (what its listed for at the other dealer), but they are trying to tell me the MSRP is 38093? I'm confused by that obviously. Just trying to figure out if I should wait for a dealer that is 2:30 hours away from me to get one in that they have said they will sell for 36,250 OTD with no miles on it, or take this deal that's close by and go with it.

So I figured out what was going on with the local dealer. They were trying to charge me their doc fee twice along with $300 for mats to inflate the price and drive it up, so I told them to pound sand as this is the second time they've tried to pull a similar move on me. They are scum, not sure why I even started negotiations with them.

Ended up going with the dealer 2:30 hours away, and I'll be getting either a white, silver or MGM 16 Trail base with the only additions being roof rack cross bars and all weather mats for 36,500 OTD and only the miles on it will be those from the factory. That works out to a starting price of 34,275, so I feel like that's a pretty significant discount off the MSRP of 37,693.

Edited to put the correct starting price on. For our region (southeast) that starting price ends up being a touch over $500 under invoice with the mats and roof rack cross bars.

I'm also in the process of negotiating for a 2016 base trail. A dealer in Kansas City is offering 36.2k + tax. What do you guys think? Is that a pretty decent deal or do you think there is some wiggle room there. Also spoke with some dealers in northern arkansas that didn't want to come down from 38k.

For the 2016 Trails, I'm "Guessing" from where Im at that the 16's are getting anywhere from $2,000- $3,000 off of the sticker price + Doc fee's.
I'm trying to negotiate 3K off sticker + Doc fee's and its not working but I'm NOT giving up LOL.

I would say it depends on what the +tax adds to the price and what add ons there are for that particular 4runner. Not sure what tax is in Kansas, but it's 4% in my area of Alabama. I would shop around with all the dealers within a couple hours of you and let them beat one another. Some will play, some won't, but hopefully you'll be able to do better than the 36.2 if you don't feel like that's a good deal.

In my opinion, for my area of the south, the truecar pricing is a joke, as it would maybe get you 1500 off msrp. If you're willing to play the games on par with the dealers, you can probably do much better than what truecar is quoting.

For sure some room there. Invoice is $33,501 for base trail.

New Toyota 4Runner Trail - in 66442 Area - on Cars.com

Can see some being offered around $34,000 here if willing to drive for it. There are several Toyota dealers around that area so sure could work them against each other as needed.

$33,501 is base before destination fee is included, so might as well be $34,401 for all those aside from the south east where it's $34,436. Any deal at or below invoice is great, the buyer feels good and the dealer still makes some money as well.
