I think it just has to do with demand. People who have them don't sell them and most people don't lease them. Supply low, demand high equals stupid used car pricing. Ironically, I was having such a hard time finding what I wanted new that I got to the point of considering a CPO TEP with 20k miles and dealer was firm at $37k. Really $2k for 20k miles... really?
Finally got my new baby
Finally found a pretty good deal on my 2013 Trail Edition 4Runner, talked them down to $35500, 2013, 30k miles, black, KDSS, sliding tray.... but here is the kicker, it came with a Gobi roof rack with rear ladder, Pro Comp wheels, Totyo Open Country 285 A/T tires and.... wait for it.... an ICON lift, appears to be at least stage 5 ICON with front and rear remote res. I don't think they knew that lift kit was worth more than $5000. I kind of wanted a 2014 but all and all it would have been impossible for me to buy a 2013 Trail with that low milage and probably would have cost me at least $7000 to add that stuff. Pretty damn pleased about how the ICON suspension with KDSS rides.

I'm seeing some pretty decent discounts in this thread. How are you guys going about negotiating these prices?
I am searching over a wide swath of the southeast and the best offers I am receiving are around $1k off (2016 4WD SR5s, and even a few 2015s), most with tons of accessories. I keep getting ridiculous comments like this from this one such dealer that offered a measly $900 off of MSRP of a 4runner which has a ton of accessories: "Unfortunately, I don't have thousands of dollars of mark up because the 4Runner holds value VERY well." This is a new vehicle mind you, not used.

Just ordered a TEP. The way I got the price I wanted which is Invoice+tax and no dealer fees was shopping around for quite awhile. I would basically walk into a dealer and state that I am not willing to pay above invoice. Most will tell me that they can't do that and I would walk away. On veterans day a dealer I had been texting offered me under Invoice if I committed today. They tried to get me to pay the dealer fees and what not but I refused and told them that I would go elsewhere if I paid a cent over invoice. They haggled a bit but agreed. Now I have $1000 down and I am waiting to see the truck at the end of the month. I too was looking at the used market and was blown away with dealers wanting 34,000 for a 2015 with 35000 mile on it when I can get a brand new TEP for 37,500. :usage: Forgot to mention mine has KDSS, 4 season floor mats and the roof rails.

I ended up going with a 2016 SR5 Premium. It had 14 miles when I purchased it, and was able to negotiate the entire deal via text message. Silver Metallic, Black/Grey Soft-ex, third row seats, alloy wheel locks and a remote start. I also added in the 8 year, 75,000 mile full coverage warranty and gap insurance +TTL
MRSP: $39,525
My OTD Price (including all the above): $37,335.27
I feel at the end of the day with all of the add ons included, I got a pretty good deal. According to TrueCar I purchased below invoice and great deal.
Is this in line with what everyone else is seeing?

Maybe I am missing something, but in my area you can find 2015's With 15k-30k miles for around and even under $30k. How anyone is paying over $30k for 2012,s and 13's doesn't make sense. I am even reading of people pay well over $40k for new ones on forums! Are leather seats and kdss a $15,000 option??? I am working on a deal for a 2015 w/3rd row for 29k, because a new on they want $35 for. Are regional differences so much?

You're likely comparing base models, to fully loaded ones.

I'm closing the deal now on a 2016 TE with cargo cover, ETune, carpet mats, exhaust tip, and cross bars for $38,500 +TTL and got ToyotaCare extended to 3 years / 36,000 miles

Ive been trying a different tactic and seems to be working.
I emailed 8 toyota dealers in my area within 50 miles. I specifically told them I want $3,000 off of msrp.
2 dealers responded at $2,000 and the other at $2,200 off of msrp on either a trail or sr5 of my choice. The TRD PROs in my area are a minimum of $1,000 over msrp
