How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

First post, thanks for letting me lurk so long.

Purchased a Premium, 3rd row, sun-roof, rails, mats. MSRP 40, 489. Paid 38, 250. 300ish in title/registration

They made a good amount of money, but man up here there was only 6 w/MR + 3rd row.

Had to drive 90 miles south to get it.

No but in Arkansas I only have to pay tax on the difference between the vehicle I sold and the new one which is $7,000. That should be ~$450 and tags are super cheap here.

FYI - otd as you stated typically includes TTL, that's why they asked. Just to make it easier to compare apples to apples.

Did you trade in the vehicle or sell it on the side? Many states only give the tax break if you trade it in at the dealer, and you pay tax on the difference, so wasn't sure how that works.

Sold it on my own. It doesn't matter here how you sell it just as long as it's within 45 days before or after your purchase.

Asheville Purchase

Stick - Sent you a PM. Need that dealers name, I am close to Knoxville, ready to buy new 4WD Premium, trading my 2015 4WD SR5.
Gotta get this done before the '18's get in the pipeline. From my research, the '18's have no changes.
Thanks

Picked up a 2017 Barcelona Red TRD Pro in the Chicago Suburbs on Thursday morning. I had been searching Autotrader.com for the past couple of months and there were none appearing in the Chicago/Milwaukee area. About a week or two ago they started showing up in the Chicago area. On Thursday morning, one showed up at the dealer I had bought my FJ Cruiser at in 2012.

I was at the dealer about 1/2 hour after it opened.

2017 Red TRD Pro - $43,600 = MSRP for options on the model I got

The dealer would not come down off of the MSRP; however, they came up on what they initially offered me on trade. I traded the 2012 FJ Cruiser for 84% of what I paid for it new at the dealer I initially bought it from. I thought that was a pretty good deal on a 5 year old trade.

The trade price, combined with the savings on sales taxes did the deal for me.

New member here, thanks for all the posts, feel like I had good ammo at the dealer.

OK, now I have to edit... Apparently you shouldn't sell a car at a sister dealer, and then not tell that dealer that you sold it. MSRP went up by 700 with the additional options, but not my price. Took them 3 days to find another one.

TRD OR Prem - Now it's Mag Grey
Moonroof
Cargo tray and Add cover
KDSS
Add Full hood paint protection
Add Charging Package
39000+599 doc fee and+TTL
They also came up $500 on what everyone was offering on my Tacoma trade (manager already had a buyer).

My story is of a 2016 but just FYI. I worked several dealers and got a 3K spread in quotes on a $36,900msrp. Finally got it as low as I could and called the Credit Union to line up the loan. THEY then searched and found the same build for $400 under my price and I got a 4Runner fresh off the boat 1 week later for $37,300 OTD. Don't forget to try the CU's buying service as they get discounts not obvious to the public. My deal was under the lowest price possible on the trucar and Edmund's sites.......

How does this deal compare?
2017 TRDOR Premium
MGM
No KDSS
Sunroof
Remote start
$38,315.00 before TTL.

Should I keep shopping?

As per my research, that is a good deal if you want remote start. Anything less than or equal to $37,750 for a ORP with sunroof/moonroof, no KDSS and no accessories is a good deal in my opinion.

I think it's a decent price, I paid 38,730 plus TTL for the same vehicle but it also had remote starts, tube steps, cross bars, hitch ball mount, paint protection, carpet and all weather liners, cargo net, cargo cover, glass break sensor, exhaust tip, charging and connectivity kit. That particular dealer only gets them with all those options and the price was still lower than my local dealers on one with no accessories besides sunroof.

So I just left the dealership after emailing them back and forth since about last Friday. Their original offer over e-mail was $41,800 OTD for a '17 Limited 4x4 with 3rd Row Seats only. (Though it did also have floor mats after seeing the print out) I then had to negotiate my trade in, which is just over $1k less than what I owe, which is not a problem; its the reason I have savings. Anyway, after going to the dealership to get the numbers in writing, I have a final offer of $42,303 OTD (which includes the negative $1k equity in my car) So the final price is $41,303. Seems like a good deal.

Basing off what you "owe" on a car is really entirely relevant and if that's what you're going based off of, I really hope they aren't screwing you over.

Go based off the KBB/NADA trade in/retail value of the vehicle and go from there. What you owe on it is entirely irrelevant, and if they've some how worked that into the negotiating discussion that's probably not going to help you.

Good catch. The car I'm trading in is NADA Retail for $21,300. I was going to try and sell it on my own and get $20k for it. And I owe $19,043. Though I negotiated the price of the 4Runner before they even knew I had a trade. So will they make some money off the trade, I'm sure. But it needs new tires and has high miles for the year.

If they're only $1300 under the Nada retail that is pretty reasonable.

I used the TrueCar app today and was able to find a 2017 TRDOR Premium for $37,115.00. This was No KDSS, with a moonroof, and nothing else. I called the dealership after they emailed me to make sure the deal was legit. This was the "sale price" of the vehicle only. It did not include the bullshit dealer ads like tint, nitrogen in the tires, wheel locks (what the hell is that?) and also a $499 doc fee. After all those were added in it put the price back up to $38,100.00 plus TT&L. The search continues......

Use the TrueCar app to get an idea of what you should shoot for, but don't "contact dealer" because when you do that, the dealer is on the hook to pay TrueCar for the referral if you buy, and it drags on your negotiating room.

Also, dealer tint is a joke... Dealer where I bought had $399 for tint jobs, I can get it done for $160 and get a MUCH better job through a local guy. My truck had it done, but the fronts don't match the factory tint (color) and I'll be re doing it anyway. Luckily I didn't pay for it.

Lastly, check the fine print on the TrueCar certificate if you do go that way. Mine specifically said it INCLUDED dealer fees, but excluded TTL. I had to point that out to the sales guy (Still saved $800 going somewhere else though).

Left Over 2016 Limited

38500 from 44500 MSRP. Dealer also included and installed running boards, mud guards and threw in all weather and carpet mats and cargo liner.

Price was plus 6% tax and 300 processing fee.
