How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

It’s not “pretty much irrelevant” it is completely, totally, irrefutably, fricking IRRELEVANT!!!

Your spot on but so are the posts that are

38,xxx, + taxes and fees......

I'll give you my 4runner for $5 + taxes and fees........a sh** ton of fees

According to NADA, invoice was something around $39,743. My price was $943 under which based on other posts was probably their entire holdback. They made $150 on docs/electronic filing of the registration which is the max allowed in Oregon.

At the end they stated that all of their profit is generated by their service department, and they only sell cars to get more Toyota's on the road for their service department to cash in on.

I think they marked up that vehicle a lot more than you think.

I payed 39.7k in central WA for an ORP with KDSS without moon roof. And this was through Costco.

They definitely gave up some of their hold back but the 10% you think you got isn't realistic.

I found the price between invoice listed in the PNW to be 2-3k higher than invoice for the exact same vehicle in the Southeast.
Add onto that the significant markup on the MSRP and yes you would get to 10% but it's not the same 10% discount you get out east.

My discount came out to be 3.5% through Costco and you payed 900 less than I did.

Regardless you got a good deal for what a 4runner cost in the PNW.

Ouch! Raining on my parade. Let me celebrate a few more days...

I have no doubt that something is extremely different for the SE region to be able to offer such steep discounts on 4Runners compared to us on the west coast. I would have loved to get one for $6,900 off like some of the other posters on here! But I have not noticed MSRP itself being any different across the U.S., so I'm not sure how my 10% off MSRP is any different than their 10% off MSRP (and some of them are getting up to 15% off MSRP!).

If you have KDSS, the minimum MSRP is $41,939 which would put your discount at 5.3%. Maybe a typo?

My selling price was $900 less than yours, but I also have the $850 moonroof, $185 cross bars, and the $155 cargo cover I had them throw in. It comes out to about a $2k price difference.

We did all of our test drives in California, and all of the ORP there are loaded with unnecessary port-installed add-ons to further jack up the prices to the $44k range (running boards, paint protection film, door edge guards, exhaust tip, etc.). The dealers we spoke were pretty confident they could sell them at list price or could squeeze in a $500 discount. Not to mention nearly 10% sales tax.

So I think I did all right!

By no means did the dealership win by screwing you over, but Toyota has a number of different packages with KDSS and Moon roof, that are cosmetic but add cost where there doesn't need to be.

All I meant with the inflated MSRP was which package have they chosen to inflated the price.

Also unless specified and requested by you the moonroof option can't be considered as an additional cost because most models rolling off the line include moon roof. The dealer could care less if it was or wasn't there, as you could see with your negotiation. I had to request one without.

My 3.5% came because of the automatic Costco fees that go on top of the 39.7k. The fees are tangentially related to specific dealers they work with so that was the best case price I could get.

Like I said, you still got a very good price for the PNW. I thought I got screwed at the price I payed but seeing that you payed 900 less than me makes me feel better about my order.

Also don't think about the Southeast prices as discounted but rather standard. The west and specifically Northwest demand is so high that dealers can sell for such high prices.

Toyota's inventory checker for the PDX and SEA zip codes shows roughly half of the ORP KDSS models do not have a moonroof. So KDSS without moonroof is definitely available. However, there was only 2 of my color choice in the area and both did have the moonroof. If I was dead set against it I could have (a) waited, (b) bought one in Washington or Idaho, (c) chosen a different color.

Moonroof was never an issue of contention, so it never came up in the negotiations.

Color, KDSS and price were more important, so I'm okay with the moonroof -- and I'm looking forward to testing it out with both the moonroof and the back window open at the same time.

I miss the Consumer Reports pricing service, where for $14 you could order a report on a specific vehicle that provided a pretty clear picture of dealer cost, holdbacks and incentives. Unfortunately CR has moved to a build and buy service which is just a re-badging of TRUECAR...

Are there any other dealer pricing information services out there that aren't just dealer bus dev tools like TRUECAR?

I don’t understand why this is so difficult. Invoice isn’t a closely guarded secret anymore. Ask. They’ll show it to you. It’s real

From what I’ve seen truecar is spot on with what invoice is.

Holdback is about 2% of MSRP

If you’re getting invoice on a 4Runner you should be happy, invoice minus hold back very happy, anything more you should be ecstatic

The “invoice” they show u is an inflated and made up price. The reason it matches the online invoices is because those sites work directly with dealers and are paid by the dealerships. At one point in time you could see the actual dealer cost online, car companies threw money at these sites to stop them from doing that. Even at 10% off MSRP the dealer is still making money.

Probably not so useful with the 4Runner, since the 2% holdback is really the only missing piece of info vs. invoice...and invoice info is easily available on NADA, Edmunds, etc. When I've bought other cars in the past, it was helpful to be able to see all the dealer and consumer incentives, which sometimes differ by region

Agree with your last sentence

That depends on the car and the incentives from the manufacturer.

So do you think a dealership should be the only business in the history of businesses to NOT make any money?

Invoice is invoice. Demand dictates how much further a dealership can/will discount a car.

No, I’m saying dont be fooled by thinking that invoice is the same as true dealer cost. They will be making money selling at invoice no matter what they try to tell you.

We just got a white, KDSS, all weather mats, cross bars, no moonroof '18. Fresh out of the port here in the SF Bay Area. Price was 40,500 +TTL but we also had a trade in so it was a bit of a shell game of course.

I'm "new" here and on Saturday I got the TRD Off Road Premium in Super White with moon roof, KDSS, sliding cargo, all weather mats (in all three locations), and the exhaust tip.

Turns out if you jump to get all of the dealer's hold back on first try they will send out the big guns to take over the deal. They brought out a paper that showed pretty much exactly what I researched which I think surprised me more than them. So less of the hold back money, but still under invoice; we got it for $39,500.

Hi, was that total out the door money spent ?

I just got 2018 TRD offroad premium for $38,100. It's only option was sunroof and $90 for a shiny exhaust tip. Out the door was $41,700.

If you want another trick that helps...

Try to pick a car from a "national" brand with tons of dealerships (like Carmax or autonation).

When I bought my Ford from Carmax, I paid $350 to have it shipped from a dealership in Alabama and paid $2500 less than an equivalent car locally.

Carmax will relocate just about any car in their national inventory. The 4Runner was the only vehicle I was interested in where buying used just didn't make sense. It's impossible to find a slightly used 4Runner for thousands off new. MOST cars are that way though. There's always someone who's bought a car, drove it less than $10k miles and basically it cost them $1/mile or more.

So for people in high cost areas, it might make sense to test drive, select and determine what you want, then shop in low cost areas and simply pay to have the vehicle relocated. I would only do this for vehicles still under warranty as you're paying the shipment fee without actually having test drove it. So it is a small risk, but saved me quite a bit in the end.

We paid $36,200 for our Black SR5 Premium with the all season mats and compustar aftermarket remote start. IDK the exact OTD price but that varies by state anyway.

I have always paid cash for cars and this is the first time I financed. Is it normal for dealers to switch financing companies without telling you?

Originally the dealer said my loan was going to be thru Toyota Financial. Today I got bill from Capital One Auto Finance. The monthly payments and term are still the same which match what I signed on the contract. I looked at the contract again and it does not list a financing company. This seems to give the dealer the option to shop around after I signed the contract. Should I be concerned even though the payments are the same? I feel I was misled.

Mark Miller Toyota in Boulder has a 2018 T4R ORP white for $35,700 including dealer fees. Seems to be an excellent deal.

First off that does seem like a good deal. Just bought one similar.

Second, I just purchased a new Super White 2018 TRD Off-Road Premium with KDSS/Moonroof/Roof Rack Cross Bars/All Weather Floor Matts/TRD Pro Wheels for $40,173 OTD. I live in Southern Oregon and worked with Lithia Toyota.

Could have scored a better deal but I really wanted white with KDSS and moonroof. First new vehicle I've ever purchased. I've had a 1st gen Double cab Tacoma and an FJ. Excited about becoming part of the 4runner community.
