Weedkiller,
My buyers order shows a purchase price of $ 36,552 (before tax, title, license, etc). Uncertain if a buyers order from Colorado would favorably improve your negotiations. I suspect, most Ark-La-Tex Toyota dealers probably don't feel much competitive pressure from Colorado dealers.
In the Ark-La-Tex ... are you near Shreveport ? I grew up there. In 1977, I ordered and purchased a new 1977 Toyota Celica from Yokem Toyota. Nice car. However, Yokem was not so nice the day the car was delivered. They were surprised when my new Celica rolled off the transport truck with nice alloy aluminum wheels. More dollar signs danced in their heads, as they tried to charge $500 extra for the aluminum wheels that were included in the signed sales contract. I got the car and paid nothing more. Unless Yokem management and sales have changed, ... then wise to steer clear of there.
Oh yea, just remembered .... Yokem Toyota did service work on my 1988 4Runner. They claimed it was fixed. Twenty miles down the road was enough to know, Yokem did not repair or even improve the problem with the right front automatic locking hub. Eventually, the auto hubs were replaced with manual.
Ideas to improve your future sales chats and negotiations ...
-Put the dealers in competition with each other. Tell them about other genuine offers. Be ready, as they may say 'not nice' things to you. Ignore it, like a cow watching a train.
-Be honest, but don't expect the same from them.
-Do your homework. Understand the vehicle and options of what trim line includes features or excludes something of interest. Many options are of questionable value and most overpriced if compared to third party products.
Fiirst, this saves money by not buying what you don't need. Second, a person develops a better sense of knowing whether to buy an option now, or delay in hopes of finding an improved alternate solution ... later.
-Once you know exactly what vehicle, trim level, options, then get dealer quotes on EXACTLY what you want. Stay focused and don't let them distract you with some other bright shiny Toy. If they don't have your described vehicle then expect the discussion to shift to other 4Runners in their inventory. Stay focused on your goal, not theirs.
-Know more than the salesman, but don't tell him that.
... enough for now ...
