I went to the closest dealer (1 hour drive) wouldn't go higher that 16,000 for my FJ which was in great condition nor would he deal on the already discounted 2018 TRD offroad Premium that had been on the lot 100+ days. Sticker 40,790 only option was moonroof.
Next day the next closest dealer (2 hours drive) worked with me and I took home
2018 TRD off road Premium MSRP 41,567. Moonroof, Predator tube steps, door edge guard- added options. Agreed to 37,500 with 17,500 for 2011 FJ 125k miles (wanted 18k they offered 16k) only a few pinstripes and very small dents from off road.
After trade in and $750 rebate, tax, fees and all the BS $21,900. Not a great deal but it worked for me. I always get annoyed and can't wait to get out of there.
The next day I looked under the hood- I know stupid not to do it b4 buying but like I said- I just want to get outa there. First thing I notice was rusted bolts. Looked under the truck, more rust. Lots of it. It was driven over the winter in MN and apparently not cleaned off. Called salesman, sent photos. They told me to make appointment to bring it in so they could put it on a lift. I said you keep telling me you want me to be happy- I'll be happy if I drive the two hours and return in a different vehicle that wasn't sitting around since winter. They agreed and said they would get one that day that had only been on the ground a week.
Next day having added about 435 miles to the truck I went back. It took about an hour to redo the paperwork for a different truck. I still didn't feel like I was getting a great deal but a good enough deal.
So I got my new 4Runner and saved a couple hundred because it didn't have the Predator tube steps (which I didn't really want anyway)
only a couple because the base price had increased.
I was happy that they didn't give me much grief and really happy with the truck that I can now call my own.
