How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Hi folks,
New to the forum, this is my first post. I just picked up my first 4runner last night, 2019 TRD OR premium, with sunroof and floor mats in midnight black. I found this thread very helpful when approaching the sales staff and wanted to share how it went for me. I was trading in my 2016 tacoma, so my experience was different than most.

I paid 37,800 for the new 4 runner, but took a beating on my trade in (31,500 for my taco, with only 16K miles on it).

Here in Montana they are treating the 2019 models like golden unicorns, and it was hard to get them to acknowledge their stupid high sticker prices ($41,400 was the listed price for my truck). I'm sure if I'd waited a few months til all of the 2018's were gone, I could have negotiated a slightly lower price.

Anyways, thanks all for contributing to this thread, it's been very helpful.

No wonder I was told by a dealer in that state that they would not sell me a trdp a month and a half ago, they said they will only sell to a resident.

I find this deal hard to believe. Congrats you stole it! Can you PM me the sales person's name?

Thanks! I will PM you that info. We were pretty happy with the price , but it definitely took some time and effort. We had been looking for months and emailing/talking in person to countless dealers. My target price was $41k OTD, and most dealers at this time were at $42k. This dealer only had a silver one, but they told us they could trade to get a black one. We said we wanted $39.5k OTD, and he came back and said they had found one they could get that day. They would have it in few hours for $41,100 OTD.

I checked all the stats, and it looks good, so we signed the papers and said we would call in few hours. A few hours later, we call and the guy says, "I don't have any drivers to pick it up, you will have to come back out tomorrow." I said, "I really don't want to come back out tomorrow, please try to get it today". He said he would try. My wife calls him about half an hour later and he now says "my driver went to pick up the car and it was damaged, but I found another one with same specs. You need to come back in a sign new papers." So at this point, I figure this is all a big bait and switch and am not happy at all. But I stay calm and figure we will see what is going on. So in a couple of hours, we go back in, it is about 8pm at this point and he shows us the paper with the specs. Everything is the same except this one is missing the cross bars/exhaust tip and wheel locks. Those items were about $330 msrp but the overall msrp for the car was only $100 difference from our original. I asked if they could credit us or install those options, the sales guy said he would credit us the at cost of those items ($268) from the total since he did not want us paying for options we are not getting. So then the new total was $40,804 OTD.

It was certainly a stressful experience, but all in all it worked out for the best.

Finally got my TRD Off-Road last week and paid $35.9K out the door. This included fees and registration (no sales tax in Oregon). Accessory items were all-weather floor mats/cargo tray, cross-bars, and 3M door edge guards/door cup protection. Given I did all the negotiation online and pick-up took less than 2 hours, pretty happy with my purchase. I did the math and was about 7.2% off MSRP.

I told my dealer I did my research and found that $39k OTD for a ORP with KDSS and moonroof was about right. He said he agreed and we did the deal. After I got home I realized they stiffed me with registration on my own, which was $260, so $39,260.

That is very interesting and I think it is a bait and switch setup. I have gone through that run around before with another dealer. I think they want you to become impatient and take what they have on the lot.

Thanks for all information you guys shared here. Purchased a silver 2018 4runner SR5 premium 4X4 with only 6 miles on it.

Options:
3rd row seats
Moonroof
Running boards
All weather mats

MSRP: $42,230, window price is $43,129 with dealer added service fee (zuichshield interior/exterior protectant; premium window tint)

My OTD price: $37,950
What dealer was this?

Not brand new, but a 2018 SR5P 4X4 with 16k miles.
Options are 3rd row, Moonroof, and xp predator package. Negotiated price is $35600 plus $699 dealer fee. Going tomorrow to test drive it. I feel like it's a good deal. The best I could do on a brand new one that was identical was $38999 plus doc fee. White on black.

For the difference in price, I would go with the new one.

You should be able to get a brand new SR5 Premium for $36500 all day long. Don't buy the XP Package, it's just an appearance package. If you can't get a good deal where you are at then expand your search area. Go out of state if you need to.

THIS^
Really, I paid less out the door for my TRD Off Road Premium, with moon roof and several stupid add-ons... of course, I had to expand my search to include the next state out, and they had to get an identical unit from the next state North of them- but yeah, that's not a great deal if we're honest, and since you joined this forum WE WANT THE BEST FOR YOU, BABY BEAR!
If they can't go at least 5k lower, walk- or shine the T4R beacon, and we can show up to dismember the entire sales team until they comply... (just shop out of state, we suck at wetwork here)
Also- expect 2 months of wait time, and lots of stupid crap to go down at the inept stealership. Because.

When you say 5k lower, do you mean off msrp? I found a new one at a dealer in TN that dropped $5200 off msrp, but it doesn't have the xp package. It's a sr5p with 3rd row and Moonroof, 4x4, white on black for 36k +++

Go to Koons Toyota near DC or Waldorf in MD. both were great to deal with. Mid Atlantic area doesn't have an xp package but you could do that yourself cheaper than a dealer fee. I got my TRD Off Road under $35k with add ons at Koons. It was quite the drive but worth it...they didn't play and got way more for my trade in too.

So the TN dealer just called and said they could take another 300 off the new SR5P. Now the deal is:
$35,700 sales price (msrp $41,173)
Doc fee is $599

Nautical blue 2018 TRD Off Road Premium

Just purchased this on Wednesday from a dealer in central Virginia. I was also shopping in Denver, trying to find a basic Off Road, but finally decided that the price difference didn't justify flying out there and driving back (even though I didn't really want a sunroof).

Only vehicle options included were KDSS, moonroof, and running boards.

MSRP was $43,135.
I paid $38,934 ($4,201, or 9.75%, off MSRP) plus TT&L
Similar vehicle in Denver was $4,324, or 10.0%, off its MSRP.

Not the lowest price anyone has gotten, but I'm okay with that!

Done deal

2018 ORP w/kdss, moonroof,running boards,wheel locks,door edge guards,all weather mats and cargo tray

Msrp 43,633
Price agreed 37,350

Also got kbb excellent condition value on my trade...extremely happy! Thanks guys

Interesting difference in experiences... Koons Tysons blatantly lied to me about why a vehicle Koons Annapolis had was cheaper (said that the Annapolis store didn't include freight), and both Koons Annapolis and Koons Tysons "WOW" price on vehicles I showed interest in magically went up within a few hours of chatting with them. Koons Annapolis also gave me a completely inaccurate "Costco" price, and when confronted about it (exactly one email after being told "We are a military town and do not play pricing games), skipped the question and just asked for proof of the pricing. Maybe it really depends on the sales person you get, the first lady I spoke with at Annapolis was very courteous, quick to respond, and helpful on the hunt; the second person I spoke with in Annapolis didn't hold any of those qualities.

I mean off of what you were quoted- although now that I considered it a bit more, you likely wouldn't get a great deal with them anyway, because dealers tend to offer lower prices upfront, and the "haggling" usually only nets you a small savings if it's successful.

I'll tell you what helped me, aside from contacting 26 dealerships in 7 states.
1st, I used online resources to locate potential 4Rs. Truecar was pretty good at showing me not only what each dealer had in real life, but it exposed that many of the used models were in fact being shifted around several states, driven by salesmen, wracking up miles and only going up in price- used was a scam in my area, so I chose to go with new.

2nd, I emailed each dealer first, only resorting to telephone when the dealer was:
A) giving me a good price, out-the-door with TTL included
B) had good customer service, showed attention to detail, actually read my email etc.
C) willing to discuss a particular unit in more detail, ie options equipped that weren't shown online

3rd, I didn't start asking questions about the exact trim I ended up with. I asked about Pros, I asked about SR5s, I asked about Limiteds... by the time I was discussing my ORP, I had a better understanding of what the dealers were willing to sell all of the trim levels for. Oh, and I let the dealers know that I had been in contact with many other dealerships, and that I would be willing to travel to whoever gave me the 4R I wanted at the most sensible price... and that I would not price match, if they weren't going to play ball I would simply mark them off the list but if they gave me a great quote I would spend the time and gas to give them my money. I did in fact travel out of state, and ignored the cocky sales manager two miles from my house.

All in all, I got my ORP for just under $40k, after TT&L, doc fees, etc. It was a nightmare dealing with that dealer, and I never will again, but I did get the 4R I wanted for less than MSRP (I think it was about $6500 off).

I actually used a great deal of the "buying guide" on this forum, I think it's a sticky? But yeah, the links here led me down a rabbit hole that helped me out immensely, as this was my first dealer experience, let alone my first new vehicle. I've always bought used beaters from friends, family and local private sellers.
