How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

What the other person said. I used cars.com to buy my PRO. It was very accurate of what dealers had the model I was looking for. Pretty accurate as well as when they were sold. I used it for 3 months to find dealers selling at MSRP. Warning: Some dealers list MSRP but do not advertise their mark up. You have to make calls to every single one.

So I just went to the dealer to check them out the SR5 was actually open

Build date 4/18
2018/8664C

$36,485
Entune package $345
3rd row with airbags $805
All weather liners and tray $249
Door edge guard $79 it actually didn’t have this
Exhaust Tip $90
Cargo Net $49
Running Boards $599
Wheel Locks $80
Keep it wild savings -$500
Delivery $995
$39,276 with all the bs options

$35,626 is advertised price

Forgive me for being ignorant but cars.com has the following for this truck

$39,276 MSRP¹
- $3,650 Dealer Discount
$35,626 Dealer Price
¹MSRP excludes Destinations and Handling

Does that mean that is what I should expect to pay no more wiggle room?

As far as I am concerned NO PRICE is final. I have yet to ever pay the exact sticker price on a vehicle. Even paying MSRP for my 4R I still got a little off based on some things they wanted to add, had added, etc. You can always negotiate. I would say what you see online is a starting point. If you really don't want to go in there and hassle then I would assume you're going to pay a little more than what you see online. Don't forget you may want to add in some service and warranty packages. Those always add up.

On a side note does anybody know of a site that shows cars inventory. I used to love Carjojo | Thanks for your support but they got sold. You could look up a car by model and it would show you all of them and how long they’d been sitting on a dealers lot. And the average price paid by people in your local area. I haven’t been able to find anything like it again.

I've had good luck searching for specific vehicles on edmunds.com.

Any good dealerships near Seattle that are trusted? I've tried finding a post by someone here who said they knew somebody, etc. The only people (dealers) I know don't sell Toyota.

Take it with a grain of salt - I needed a new vehicle and didn't have time/bandwidth to negotiate extensively with a bunch of dealerships. But I bought my TRD OFP with KDSS at Magic Toyota. It was a painless experience and they didn't mess with me. Gave me a good price on trade and a solid deal on the new vehicle as far as I can tell.

In 2003, I bought a brand new Tacoma from Toyota of Lake City. The price was better than other dealerships in the area, and they even did a swap with a dealer in Olympia for the black one I wanted. It's been a long time since then, but I had a good experience there. No BS at all, friendly people. Take it with a grain of salt as a lot of time has passed.

So I’m in the market for a 4Runner now I really wanted a pro but it’s more money than what I really want to pay right now. I started looking at used pros and limited and it doesn’t make sense these trucks hold value way to well which is great. I’m thinking I’m going to get a SR5 becauce I can buy the TRD wheels and add a Katzskin heated redwood interior set down the line to basically get what I want. Sunroof would be nice but not a deal breaker. Local dealer by me has in blue which is my only requirement a 2018 4x4 SR5 with basically no options advertised for $35,626 which I know has been on there lot for a while. They also have a 2019 TRd OffRoad advertised for $38,105. Do you think Toyota is giving them unadvertised incentives to move the 18?

I’m In Northern NJ looking to either lease or finance, does anybody have an idea what a more realistic OTF price would be on these trucks?

Check out Berlin city. I bought an 18 TRD OR premium without kdss for 36250 (before taxes) last year. They deliver and are great to work with. Painless financing too. Let me know if you want the sales person I worked with info

A week late to your post... If you're willing to drive about an hour north, Foothills Toyota is excellent. They won't BS you and the sales tax up there is 8.5%. That lower 1.5 - 2% sales tax ends up saving quite a bit on a vehicle.

Ping me and I can give you my contact's name and email there.

I bought a new 17 TRD OR paid 35,600 before tax included all weather mats set and running boards. Traded in on a 2019 TRD Pro and paid 47,200 before tax and included running boards and sliding rear tray. Dealer threw in a set of wheel locks. Took my mats from my old one. Dealer gave me 26,000 for my 2017 OR with 45,000 miles. Loved the OR but i could not stand that it was Black. My 1st and last black car!

After 3+ hours of haggling, I settled on a deal at $38000 plus tax/title/etc on a new 2019 TRDO with KDSS at Longo Toyota in El Monte, California. Sticker price was $41484.

Sales manager tried to hold 10% on my trade-in, initial offer was $15300. Carmax appraised it yesterday for $17000, so Longo quickly matched it. With the trade-in out of the way, he hit me at full sticker price for the new one. Told him about this thread, and that people all over the US are paying @ $3000 below sticker for this truck. He finally agreed to my initial offer after 2 hours of me saying 'no'. Clowns.

So I finally get to finance, only to find out the sales tax rate in El Monte is 10% (vs. 8.25% in Las Vegas) ****AND**** the state of California does not allow a tax credit on your trade-in. They are 1 of only 7 states that don't. Same exact truck in Las Vegas would cost me over $2000 less. No wonder people are fleeing California in droves.

Needless to say, I passed on the deal. Last time I ever car shop in California.

At Priority Toyota in Richmond Virgina I paid $37,416 before tax. For my 2019 TRD Off Road Premium. I thought that was not a great deal but fair. It was the first quote too, cheaper than all the other dealers in south east Virginia. Wanted a Pro of course but couldn't justify the extra 10 grand for what the Pro offered over the Off Road Premium.

Not bad at all.

We all could have told you that. No one ever comes to California for “good deals” even less so in SoCal (home of the $10k PRO markup).
Also, I’ve always been told to negotiate the new car price before the trade in price because the higher the trade in the higher the new car price will be. Plus you already had a carmax price anyways.

Thanks for the info! Live and learn I guess. I hit up one of my local dealers to see if they could swing a trade for the one I drove at Longo.... No dice.
California is a different sales region, and apparently dealers can only trade with other dealers within the same region.

Serious question, have I been reading wrong, or do you not pay the sales tax rate based on the state you're registering the vehicle in?

Just came across an ad for a Trail Premium, 31k miles for $33k. Seemed like a pretty decent starting price for it, pulled the VIN up and looks like it has KDSS. May talk with them tomorrow and see what kind of offer they'll make on it.

Is there any real difference between the Trail and TRD OR aside from the TRD badging?

It's a bit more complicated than that, based on my experience...

If you buy a California vehicle and pick it up in California, you pay California sales tax.

If you buy a California vehicle and ship it to your home state, you pay your home state's sales tax.

Registration (title and tags) is always your home state's rates.

Please correct me if I am wrong here but this was the situation when I last bought an Internet vehicle...

Correct. I recently bought my wife's certified pre-owned Honda Odyssey in LA. To avoid paying sales tax in California (9.5%), I got it shipped to Denver in a closed trailer. I paid 5% sales tax in Douglas County. Not sure if I saved any money since I paid for shipping. Plus, if you are out of state you can't finance you car with a dealership in California. You would have to secure financing from your credit union/bank in advance.

As I understand it, it varies from state to state. For instance, if someone from Nevada buys a car in Utah (which I have done twice), Utah dealers are not allowed to collect Utah sales tax, and are required to remit Nevada sales tax directly to the Nevada dmv. This seems to be the exception.

Some states will split a portion of the sales tax between them. If I were to buy a car in a state with a lower tax rate (say 6% vs 8.25% in Nevada), then the other state could collect their 6%, and I would owe the remaining 2.25% to Nevada.

If I were to buy a car in Oregon (no sales tax), I would still owe 8.25% to Nevada which I would have to pay in person at the dmv when I register the car in Nevada.

California has a higher tax rate than Nevada, and they don't allow a trade-in credit, so they wanted all 10% of it for themselves. To which I replied they could get bent lol.
