How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

I posted in the Supply Chain thread that my local dealer (Concord Toyota-Northern CA), has very very little stock. Zero 4-Runners as of last weekend, 1 Tacoma, zero Tundras, a few Prius’ and Camrys etc. it almost looks like they’re going out of business.

We bought our 2021 ORP for $1500 off MSRP back in February. We searched high and low for a black one off the truck, but took one in dealer stock (I wanted a minty fresh one!). The one we bought only had 19 miles so, all good.

As a side note, we sold our 200 4-Runner for twice what we originally were going to ask. Thx to a forum member here and my trusty mechanic Frank.

I started out dealing with my local dealer, they didn't have any on the lot and no ETA on more. So I called multiple dealerships within a couple hundred miles of me that listed 4Runners on their site. Every one I called said they were in transit and pre-sold. One dealership mentioned all of theirs were pre-sold except one black ORP so I had him email me the info. ORP with all weather floor mats, sunroof, exhaust tip, and high performance LEDs. It has a "market adjustment" of $2995 over MSRP, so $47,800 plus tax, doc fee, etc. It's more than what I wanted to spend, but at this point, beggars can't be choosers (daily driver is dying) so I decided to put a deposit on it. Expected to arrive the middle of next month. Super excited for it though!

Searched for a few weeks for a cement gray trail special edition 4x4 and contacted probably around 20 dealerships. Put a refundable deposit with a local Austin dealer that ended up not panning out not to mention the sales guy was a jerk. Found one about an hour away but they couldn’t come down from $2k in addons i didn’t want (after initially charging $5k for market adjustment). Finally secured one in Houston for $42567 which includes trail rails, cargo cover and the paint and fabric protection package. The only addition was $890 for a few addons plus TTL. Pretty happy w/ this considering my conversations with other dealers initially about used 4runners. Taking delivery mid July :)

1 year ago, I was still able to get on the wait list for a 2021 TRD Pro LR, tag was 61,730 (I am Canadian). This is before taxes/levies/etc. That's with a $1,200 discount cuz it was buddy's dad.

Of course, still waiting after 9 months with no car in sight... Province next to me in Alberta had a car available. Sticker was 64,988 and it is black instead.

So i paid 3,258 more than what i could have gotten it for... and the cherry to the icing? I would have saved 1% on the finance rate if i went through buddy's dad and did it in house.

Still waiting for it to come in... hopefully ETA is wednesday and I get the car.

I have been waiting since May last year for a 2020 as well, then changed it to a 2021 model last year September. Deposit paid too....

Do most people try to avoid add ons? I had the choice of removing or adding add one to my incoming pro.

I just sold my 2019 white ORP to the dealership and the deal was they would give me their incoming LR PRO for 4500 over msrp. A couple other Bay Area dealers are are asking 5k over msrp but don’t have any in stock. Another dealer that had an LR PRO incoming was asking 13k over msrp and would not budge.

I was looking recently before buying my new to me 2017.
Every dealer near me in socal is charging 8-12k on new trail editions.
Best price I got was $62k out the door.

Are Nightshades getting marked up, too? In early May I got mine for MSRP minus $1000 Keep It Wild Savings.

The salesman that sold my 2020 TRD ORP KDSS w TRD Wheels and exhaust and 2800 miles offered me 15k over what I paid including the the taxes and fees??? He has a customer that wants my exact build and is desperate to purchase. If I didn’t love the darn thing I would let it go. But it took me 6 months in a better sales environment to get mine. Plus ceramic sealed dealer installed coating and dealer installed Swiss undercoating system. You drive it through a light rain storm and it looks freshly washed!

For $15k over you can sell it and get a trd pro at msrp lol

I purchased my 2019 white 4Runner TRD OffRoad w/ KDSS, brand new no milage out the door with taxes license fees etc. for $41k. That is here in SoCal. I also got the 12 year Toyota Platinum warranty for $1100 I believe through my retired mom.

That was two years ago, my friend. Might as well be 20 years, given current pricing situation.

I'm near Raleigh, NC and was shopping for a "used" 4runner, in that 2-4 year old with 10-35k miles on it. After looking at the used prices I figured I'd take a look at how much a new one would run me. While I was originally willing to drive/fly somewhere to pick up the car, I started looking within the state and talking to all the dealers. Turns out 2020+ used ORP were only about 1.5-2k savings against new cars, and while inventory was low I found a dealer or two that were willing to order one for me.

Luckily, ended up calling and asking about a specific 2021 black ORP, and found out the person who had it reserved no longer wanted it. Drove the 1.5hr away, and picked it up on Saturday 5/15/21.

Black 2021 TRD Off Road Premium NO KDSS, WITH Moonroof OTD for $44,000 flat in NC (3% tax). Puts the total after dealer fees right around $42,700, so a hair under 5% off of the $44,750 MSRP. Got a 2% loan for 10k down. Only options were moonroof and the $200 interior LED upgrade, which I'm sure costs less than $200 to install yourself... Happy with the price, really anything under MSRP!

I am new to forum and planning to buy 4Runner would you mine sharing dealership name?

Where are you located. I found two dealers selling at MSRP, actually one selling $500 below for any incoming not reserved. I’m getting a silver Venture at MSRP but killer deal on my trade so taking advantage of the hot market on used by offloading my 2019 Subaru. I’m in Pacific Northwest area.

I’m in Los Angeles. No way I’m paying these prices. All these people paying over will regret it in a year or two. The 4Runner has good resale value but when your overpaying so much…your gona end up losing that.

Zero 4Runners at Concord Toyota and 3 at Walnut Creek that we saw.

They’re bolstering up their new car lot with used trucks to try and make it not look so bad.

Paid almost full MSRP for our 21 TRD Off Road Premium and could not be happier considering they gave me 6k more for our GX than we paid for it. Fantastic vehicle and we regret nothing.

Just picked up a fully loaded black on black 4x4 Limited this week for $2500 under MSRP.

Was very happy with the price given the insane trade in value they gave me.

In all of metro ATL, there were only 2-3 4x4 Limiteds available, all around $50k

At one dealership I tried to make a deal for a Limited and I put a deposit on that incoming car. Pre-negotiated the price ($50,000) and was given a delivery date. They started stringing me along, tried to bait and switch me with another car, and finally admitted that the car I put a deposit on never existed in the first place.

I called a different dealership, and they produced a paper for an incoming Limited that I said I wanted to put a deposit on. They tried to switch my interest to another car that's incoming then they gave me an insanely marked up price for the one I wanted ($60,000)! $10,000 of that was after the total purchase quote. I asked them what specific addon accessories it had and told them what I want taken off from what I could see on the vague sheet. Then they ghosted me.

At ANOTHER dealership they threw $50,000 at me for a TRD Premium.

Still on the hunt but those are the prices they are trying to 'negotiate'.

The dealerships here are being sooo greedy about new cars. I just want to see their incoming cars, pick the one I want that's available, and negotiate an out the door price for it. Every single time, they try to bait and switch me or want to immediately talk about payments when I'm still talking about what's physically on the car. When I refuse they do their best to kick me out the door ASAP.

A couple more stimulus packages and an infrastructure bill, and we'll see lightly used 5th Gen 4Runners hit six figures.

But god forbid we raise the taxes on the rich, cause one day "Old Tanker" is going to be worth 7 figures and doesn't want to pay taxes, so he won't support any taxes increases on the rich right now either.
