How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

I'm 99% sure Toyota does not have any visibility into dealer operations surrounding customer deposits on vehicles. To my knowledge, allocation is based on the number of units sold for a specific timeframe (ie: per month).

Longo Toyota in CA (the largest Toyota dealership in the US, and possibly the world) explained to me the only way they can get more 4Runners allocated to them is to deliver more of them faster, and that it didn't matter how many deposits they receive.

I personally would not expect any sort of 4runner incentives this year. Heck, even before COVID (when they were readily available) most were considered lucky to get just a few thousand off on them.

If you trade in your current car, I'm assuming you won't have anything else to drive, correct? If that were the case, I'd lean more towards trading it in now if you can find a new 4runner available at MSRP.

Have an extra car that my family is willing to let me trade in or just drive it until the market gets better. But like you said, I wasn't sure if 4runner will have any time soon. Wasn't sure if 4runner had great deals before the pandemic, but from reading what you said - it must have been not easy to get a great deal.

I paid MSRP (approx. $46K) for my Lunar Rock Off Road Premium w/ sunroof. Deposit placed 09/09/2021 and just got a call from the dealer that it is rolling off the truck on Thursday.

I paid msrp on my 2022 white TRD PRO. Came to like $58k otd. Called dealer around Halloween and had it right after christmas

Same as me and my buddy. 2x 22 Lime Rush from Alexandria Toyota@MSRP OTD $58K no hassle. Pretty rare for the dealer to receive 2x Lime Rush.

It was very hard to find a white TRD pro in stock anywhere, or without a wait list with no idea on arrival times. I came across quite a few lime rush’s, but most had a markup of at least $3k

Got my ‘22 ORP W/ KDSS for MSRP. Was super hard to find, and nearly impossible without a markup. Camped out in front of the dealership with my checkbook in hand every morning of the delivery window to get it, and was happy to pay MSRP based in what i saw dealers doing (5-6k mark ups on off roads, 10 on pro’s) made a killing on my Jeep that i sold to get it, too.

As i was doing paperwork, 5 people came in behind me for it….one yelled at the salesman about not being able to get it. “You said you werent allowing anyone to reserve it? How is it gone already?” “Ma’am, we’ve been open for 45 minutes. He was here 30 minutes before we opened, waiting, with his money ready to go. We’ve always said this truck was first come, first serve….”

Crazy market.

Pretty pissed right now. I ordered my 22 ORP in Lunar Rock with a sunroof back in September. The truck is being delivered this week but the dealer emailed me today and said "little bit of a hiccup, the 4runner coming in has running boards and a roof rack, but no sunroof, that is the only way we are able get your 4Runner. You could always have an aftermarket sunroof installed".

Am I shit out of luck here? I'd be trading the one thing I want for two things I don't need or want, and I've never heard of an aftermarket sunroof that doesn't leak.

i would be pissed. but i'm going to be honest with you; i thought i HAD to have a sunroof and never even considered i would pay this much money for a 4runner without one. at the end of the day, the one that came available had everything i wanted but no sunroof. i had a big internal debate with myself and drove it around and decided it was not a deal breaker.

but again, if this is something you really were looking forward to, i would bite my lip and wait for the next one to come along. you do NOT want an aftermarket sunroof.

This is one of the only dealers in all of New England that doesn't mark up anything. I tend to agree that that I will be able to live without a sunroof, it just sucks to be expecting one thing for almost 5 months and then get something slightly different. Especially when I'm paying what I am.

On the flip side, I have a Lexus ES with 175K on it that I know will give me a big repair bill sooner rather than later so I don't want to wait much longer.

Something about having the sunroof and back window open, its like driving a 4Runner convertible. But I think I will be able to live with it.

I laughed at the guy when he suggested aftermarket.

I don't understand how the one you ordered can only come not the way you ordered it. Sounds like someone maybe cancelled theirs and they are trying to get you into it?

What roof rack? Don't they all come with roof rails at least? Roof cross rails and running boards cost significantly less than the sunroof you paid for.

Did you sign a contract? I’m assuming you had to to order it. If not then you have no obligation to accept it. If yes, read it carefully and see what your options are. If your contract clearly says sunroof and that’s not what you get you can use it to negotiate extra benefits such as extended bumper to bumper warranty. If the dealer doesn’t want to work with you or you don’t want the vehicle then I would call the Toyota Customer Service Center and see if you can get help there.

Some dealers have been doing a bait and switch due to the current market situation. They'll intentionally order a vehicle slightly wrong, often times with options that can be installed by the dealer at a SIGNIFICANT markup (i.e., running boards, roof rack bars, roof basket, etc.). The thought here is you'll either settle for it or they'll be another person waiting to buy the vehicle for more in case you walk.

That moonroof option is something like $1,100 of which the dealer gets very little profit from. Buy incorrectly ordering the 4Runner without the moonroof and installing running boards and a roof rack bars/basket all the while charging you the same price (or more?), they're pocketing a bit more money.

When we bought our 4runner, we had the option of getting running boards and roof rack bars. Those parts installed would have added about $950 to the purchase price. I ordered the running boards and bars from an online Toyota store for $310 total and installed everything myself in about an hour.

This sounds like what may have happened. There was no contract. Basically the dealer sent me a spec sheet for a very similar vehicle to the one I wanted and he marked it up with the changes I wanted, put a $1500 deposit down and was told 3-4months. This is what I had agreed to:

2022 ORP Lunar Rock w/ sunroof, blackout emblems, door edge guards, high-performance LED fogs, wheel locks - $45,852

Today I get an email saying it is scheduled to be delivered end of this week but that there was a slight hiccup, the one being delivered is coming configured like this:

2022 ORP Lunar Rock w/ blackout emblems, door edge guards, high-performance LED fogs, wheel locks, running boards, roof rack cross bars - $46,086

Either what you say happened, or they saw this one on the allocation list and it was close enough to what I wanted so they put my name on it. Basically I can either accept it as is, or keep waiting for exactly what I want which could be another month or another 6 months, if it comes at all.

I am tempted to just swallow my pride on the sunroof and negotiate some extras either on the 4Runner (such as extended warranty) or more for my current trade and just call it a wash. I really don't want to wait another 4 months

Sunroof, Etc.

Dealer Dilemna

We caught an allotment on a base 4R-AWD. Deposit in middle of November, went to port on 12/8, to dealer this week, picked up yesterday. We wanted a Premium, I shopped 200 mile radius, no luck, all pre-sold.

The 4R we just received, was coming with Predator step tubes, roof rack cross bars, door edge guards. We were informed a month ago, these options will not be in this 4R, from the port. Reason, do not have the product.
It could be possible that they are out of sun roofs, if at the port. I do agree with you on the after market sunroofs, past experience not good.

Finding a base SR5 4R, with minimum frills is almost impossible. There are dealers marking up the 4R's. Ours did not, we are happy to pay retail.
When we bought the Tacoma, our 4R at that time was 2018 AWD, 32K on the odo, got more money for it on trade, then when we purchased it 4/18.

These things are happening, just roll with the punches. It will get better.

4runner

Got a quote for sr5 premium w/ plus package 44k with dealer $600 + clearbra and tint $998

Off road premium w/ KDSS MSRP of 48.5k w/ the same fees above.

Most likely going to go w/ sr5. I don't see myself offroading, just minor car camping and taking the car to the mountains for snowboarding.

Nice.. Which dealer was this? I have a white 22 ORP but wouldn't mind trading it towards a white pro, do they even exist though? :noidea::pound: I've seen lime rush, but I don't want that color.

If the dealer is doing tint and clear bra for $1k, ask them what they'll be using? Could be the bottom of the barrel materials. Best to do them yourself outside of the dealer. My brother got his sequoia pro few weeks ago and it had factory clear bra. That thing they laid down on the hood and fenders was hilarious. It was about 5" wide only.

I'd honestly would just pay the extra and get the off road premium. Regardless if you don't see yourself off roading, it's better to have features such as lockers incase you ever find yourself needing it. You rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. Plus they'll probably hold their resale value better than any SR5. The manual transfer case is a better more reliable source vs electronic transfer case.

How’s the Sequoia drive compared to the 4Runner? Dealer did not have a Sequoia when I was in the market for a car.
