How much deeper could my 4Runner have gone with no Snorkel?

ok coming from a guy who has a snorkel and who has had water over the mirrors on his truck and did just fine... it will do it just fine with a snorkel and some minor silicon work. their are some trade offs to completely sealing off your air box... i sealed mine up, but i also made a small plug in mine, that i keep in unless i need it to drain(say somehow water does get in...). i have done nothing else to water tight my rig, for several reasons, if you completely water tight your rig, i will not sink, it will float, and floating is bad. -if you float, your tires will not touch the ground and you will not get traction and you will be swept away by the current. i would rather have water come into my rig, and be able to drive around and maneuver through the water to get out and then deal with the wet interior than lose my truck...

a few guys have touched on one of the biggest keys here, and that is to keep moving, do not stop. a few things can happen if you stop, one you can really sink, mud is soft and will suck you in and you might not have the power or traction to get out if you stop. also if you stop you are increasing your time in the water, that increased time is not your friend. water will find its ways into your system somehow, somewhere. stopping/going slow can also allow the water to over take your vehicle and push it around/down stream or roll it

that guy got super lucky, but this is exactly what i mean buy you dont want your rig to float...

i have never had to water tight my alternator or starter, they have been just fine, but i also dong drive to sludge water or muddy water if i dont have to, i will drive through clear creeks but i dont want to fill my radiator and alternator and other things with crap... i have also never had a problem with water shorting out plugs and causing miss fires, but again i dont hang out in the water, i get in, get through and get out.

also water crossings is always best done with at least two rigs, and preferably three or more.
