how much lift?

My question about lift height got lost in my other thread. My 1987 4runner has NWOR rear springs for a 1989-1995? Truck which means they are too long. My shackle is buried against the frame. If I buy new springs, what lift do I need to buy? I like the ride height I have now. Tires are 33 12.50x15 on 8 inch wheels. Picture below. What lift spring would it take to match this height? It does have a body lift also, maybe 3 inches. I'll measure and get a picture of the body lift tonight.

It looks to me a good solid 4". This is mine and I'm running 33-12.5-15s and I'm running a good 6" of lift in the rear.

You think 4 inches? I thought 2 or 3 inches from the springs and 3 from the body lift. Here's a picture of the body lift spacer. This is the front left. I wish someone knew a stock measurement from frame to axle. Mine measures 10 3/8 from spring perch to the bump stop and 13 1/2 inches from spring perch to the frame. Does that help anyone with a guess on the rear suspension lift? Sorry, I don't know how to rotate the picture.

Its hard to tell because of the BL. Is the front lifted at all? I would say stock to 2" lift is whats in the rear.

You already have a decent set of springs, why not just move the front hangers forward a bit? Looks
 
I'm sure the NWOR springs are of good quality. Moving the hangers is a little more fab work than I can handle. Changing parts I can tackle, no problem. Cutting and moving them, getting everything aligned, secure and working correctly again, not so much. Where can I find a stock measurement from axle to spring?
 
If you're not into the fab, then make your life super easy and order up a set of OME springs. Match them with a set of balljoint spacers and move on. :)

You're going to have a hard time finding a "stock" measurement from axle to truck - any truck that is stock these days is saggy, and anything that isn't stock has been lifted, so nothing is the way it was when it rolled off the factory line. You can extrapolate with a little math - stock tire size was 225/75r15, and the stock cab height was 66.1 inches, so subtract your body lift and factor in the difference in tire size and you can get to a close approximation of the stock distance from axle to body. But it won't be exact.

Thanks for that. I'll use those measurements and see what I get. Been looking at the OME springs, but only see them in 2 inch lift. Not sure that's enough to avoid creating a low rear. Maybe I missed something on the Web site. Just trying to buy a bolt in replacement for the rear without touching the front. Thks.

what does the front suspension look like?

can you get a pic of the front suspension straight on?

also, if there is a drop bracket, just measure the distance between the old mount holes, and the drop bracket mount holes, that will tell you how much of a lift it is. then get rear springs to match.


or as was suggested above, move the springs mounts.


personally, I would move the shackle mount back, not the spring hanger forward. its pretty simple actually.
 
With those numbers, 66.1 on cab and a 28.3 inch tire, compared to my 75 inch cab 3 inch BL and 33 inch tires, I have about 1.5 to 2 inches of spring lift. Really looks like more. But I will probably go with that unless someone changes my mind.
 
NEVADA... Here's a few front end pictures. Pretty new to this stuff. Not sure about a drop bracket. The torsion bars are white, making me think they are after market. Anyway, here's some pictures. If you need anymore that can help me make the right purchase let me know. Thks.

No drop bracket there, and I don't see a ball joint spacer either. That's definitely lifted about 2" based on the CV angle though, so that torsion beam is probably cranked to the limit.

Rear springs aside, having those torsion bars cranked up like that makes for a very rough ride too. I think you're on the right track with a set of OME springs. They'll bolt up to the stock locations, and then you can put a ball joint spacer in front and relax the torsion bars until the ride height matches. That's going to make a world of difference in how that truck rides - you'll think you're in a Cadillac.

Dunno what you've got for shocks in there, but if you're in the mood to spend more money, I really like my OME Nitrochargers too. They're set up specifically for this truck instead of being meant for install on a range of trucks, and that makes a huge difference.

agreed, looks like just cranked torsion bars.
 
3rd on the cranked bars. Between that and the rear leafs, that must be a horrible ride.

New hangers for the rear springs are about 40 from trail gear, and I bet a shop wouldnt charge much to cut off the old hangers and weld on the new ones.

Or just get new springs. You should turn down those t bars a bit, will help the ride alot! If you want to keep that height, get some Ball joint spacers.
