How much oil?

Hello all, I just bought a 97 sr5 with 188,000 miles. I'm going to change my front and rear diff fluid, transfer case fluid and flush the transmission. How many quarts of atf fluid and diff fluid should I buy? I was thinking 12 quarts of atf and 5 quarts of 75-90.Also I'm planning on using redline d4 in the tranny and redline 75-90w in everything else is that ok?

75w-90 should be ok. I think I used 75w-80 but it's not a big deal. 5 quarts should be ok, 6 might be better. You can always return what you don't use.

I cannot stress enough, open the FILLER plug before the DRAIN plug. Mine were stuck on really, really good (never opened before) and if I had tried the drain plug first, and drained the fluid, I would have been in a bad pickle.

I've never done a flush, just drain and fills so I cannot comment there. I just put 8 quarts after working on the valve body, so at least that much.

12 quarts of ATF is about right but I'd have a 13th quart just in case the fluid is still looking dirty at the 12 quart mark.

The front diff capacity is 1.2 quarts
The rear diff capacity is 2.6 quarts w/o a locker and 2.9 quarts w/ a locker
Transfer case holds a little over 1 quart

The front diff and transfer case take 75w-90
The rear diff takes 80w-90 (but 75w-90 is probably just fine)

Be very careful with the front diff drain and fill plugs. Toyota stupidly used allen bolts and they are notorious for stripping because they seem to get welded on there. Make sure you have a good 10mm allen socket and a decent size breaker bar in case they fight you. Like [MENTION=115347]gamefreakgc[/MENTION] said, as a good practice, make sure you can get the fill plug loose first before you start draining it. You wouldn't want to get the drain plug off just to find out you can't get the fill plug loose.

Remeber: GL-5 for diffs, not GL-4.

The rear diff calls for SAE80 for <-15C, and SAE90 for >-15C temperatures.
Not sure why you put w140 in, that's way too viscous, but I'm not sure if that will cause problems.

It's what I had on the shelf. All other vehicles call for it. And it's still a 75w cold protection wise. I figured next change I'll put the 75w90 in since there are drain plugs. Makes oil change super easy compared to my D44's, D60, D80, and D30.
