How much should I pay for this '99?

I really like this 1999:

But with 150,000 I feel it's way overpriced. Yes, it's clean, but it's still way overpriced.

How much would you pay for this one? Any tips on convincing the dealer to negotiate, or would I be wasting my time?

10 grand is ridiculously I wouldn't pay more then 6 or 7 grand, I paid 4200 for my 99 4runner almost exactly like that one just mine only had 130000 miles on it so I wouldn't go more than 7 thousand
 
That dealership is straight up smoking crack. If you read my build thread you'll read a story about how my girlfriend bought a 2000 4runner with 67K miles, zero rust, and had a 5-speed. She got it for $9800, so yeah......
 
CA prices are usually higher than a lot of other areas, but that is probably higher than what is normal for here even.

I paid $10k for mine, aug of 08 with around 115k on it, and it was a year newer and with the sport/highlander package.
 
Ha! So either the dealer is trying to score on some sucker who knows nothing, or they have quite a bit of wiggle room. However, getting a dealer to drop $6K on a car sounds like impossible. Their negotiating room is usually around $3k.

Anyway, I'm trying to contact the dealer and see what they say. I'm sure they are aware of how overpriced it is, but not sure whether or not they'd sell it for what it's really worth.

On the other hand, what about this '98?:

1998 Toyota 4Runner $6,999 - Arizona Car Company - Bellflower, CA 90706 Dealer

Maybe not be as nice a color as the overpriced one, but it's priced much more reasonably.

If you guys see another gen 3 4x4 stick anywhere in Socal or central CA, let me know. I'm searching high and low for one.
 
I actually bought my 4Runner from that place. They seem to specialize in 3rd gen 4Runners, I bet they had 6-7 on the lot when I was there. They definitely over-price, but they will come down a lot. From $14k (sticker) to $10k (out the door) in my case. I know it wasn't a great deal, but mint condition 4Runners with 5-spd/elocker (in my case) command a premium here. I test drove it, then walked away. I had two calls from him by the time I got home. It has been a great rig ever since.
 
If it has a e-locker

and the 5 spd trans that's a real rare 3G and they know they can demand a premium price. Nice and clean though.

5 speed is rare for a reason. Don't get me wrong a love a manual transmission and prefer most of my vehicles have them. HOWEVER 99% of the population just wants to be oblivious behind the wheel and cruise along talking, texting, singing, and god knows what else. The manual trans is actually going to keep a lot of people from wanting it. Sure there are a few people that are looking for that specifically but I would still use it as a point to bargain down the price.

"i'm not so sure about the manual in everyday traffic, too bad its not an auto"

they may come back with oh well were willing to work on the price or they might pull the "its rare lots of people want it" card.
 
BTW, I spoke with the dealer late morning yesterday. He wouldn't budge. He said he wanted the truck because he sells lots of them, so he says he paid more than KBB for it in the first place.

Might be rare, I might like manuals, but that is too much money for a truck with 150k miles. I just passed. The fact of the matter is, they are rare. But I see good ones show up locally at least once a month and some even have less mileage.

I think you made a good decision. I can't imagine anyone paying more than $5,500 at the most. Well, that is what you have to deal with when dealing with dealers. They are all crooks.
 
When you get in over $10k for a manual third gen, you might as well find an early 07-08 FJ, they aren't that much more money and you get a 5 year old vs 12 year old vehicle, made by the same reliable manufacturer. If i were looking at $11k i would bump my price range up a little just to get the newer car!

I.E. a Sub $14k FJ manual

FJ Cruiser 1


And a $14k FJ manual with 75k miles

^^ Not a bad idea. They do seem to be priced higher in California though. The lowest I seem to find a 2007/08 FJ here so far is $17,000.

Not just 5 spd. It really is too each is own when it comes to transmission types. I drove a stick for so long when i lived in so cal and hated it in traffic.

I really thought about this too, but by the time you consider the cost of plane ticket, the fuel to drive it home, the cost of staying some place on the road and eating, the lost wages or vacation time spent driving across the country, it adds up quick. Not to mention adding extra miles to the truck. So even though 4x4s are more expensive around here in the Northwest, its usually not worth the added expense of traveling to get a truck in my experience. Plus you don't get the see the vehicle in person before you make a large investment in travel costs to the site of the deal.

I'm currently negotiating with a member here for one. The tricky bit is his is built up so it costs little more. Working on getting financing for it. Let's see what happens.

By the way, I might have mentioned it before... But I've also been considering other AWD/4x4 vehicles alongside the Runner.

Namely...

Subaru Forester (2007)
Subaru Outback (2003)
Subaru Impreza Wagon (2007)
Nissan Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed (2004)
Jeep XJ Cherokee (1999)

I like Tacomas, but the Gen 2 are a little rich in price and there are no Gen 1 4 door sticks.

I'm interested in all these, but the 4Runner is just the coolest. :)
