How not to off-road

Just started this thread oven in the off roading sub forum, but thought it needed posting here too as there are a lot of 5th Gen owners who are likely new to 4wheeling and the vehicle in the video is a 5th Gen. Edit. Well, it took less than 12 hours, but now the video is gone. I guess me calling them out served its purpose and people won't think this is an acceptable way to drive off road.

Do not do this. Fast forward to 6:40 for the worst part. There was no reason for him to leave the trail to ascend that ledge. He could have easily made it up the first place with a throttle bump, or at worst a strap. If you can't make it up, you don't get to create your own, easier path. This is why trails get closed and the enviro nuts hate us. Responsible 4wheeling can absolutely co-exist with conserving the land and habitat, but not if people do this.

Actually two rocks would've worked best in that situation....

one to put down to help the truck up and over the ledge without any drama...

and the other to bonce off that dudes head for running over shrubs....


The wrong guy to show folks how to "off road"....and this is what folks that want to shut down public land want to show others....some knucklehead running roughshod across the landscape

Yeah that rock that's been there for like...eons, shaped by wind, water, and jackwagons not driving over it because Moab is a magical place we're lucky to be able to drive on in very specially designated areas that we could lose because of dumb shit like this.
 
I appreciate you sharing this video greatly. As a novice in the 4x4 world these vids enlighten people like me on what not to do, and proper trail etiquette. Thank you
 
What morons....and to use this as a tool to teach people how to offroad is incredibly irresponsible. Looks like they removed the video from their channel though haha. It's still searchable but doesn't come up on their video playlist. And when I click the link in this thread to view the video they blocked comments within the last 30 minutes. Looks like they've had enough people tell them how dumb they are!
 
They set it to unlisted. Look, I don't feel like shaming people actually makes them smarter, it makes them embarrassed and then defensive. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those guys comes on here and starts trying to justify it.

I have no personal beef with any of those guys. I will say that the whole 'tacticool' field trying to cash in on the overlanding craze is just...the worst.

Everyone is so desperate for content that no one stops to ask "are we actually saying anything worth merit?" In this case...nope...
 
This is what makes me a bit embarrassed to drive a 5th gen these days. These "how to offroad" with a wrap and RTT videos did not exist before the IG over landing XO craze...

The thing that struck me most here is.... I'm not going to air down my tires (because that would take time).. instead I'll just drive over the small bits of what is not rock and destroy it instead. Oh yea, and post it as a how to off-road video.

Someone in the offroad industry lamented to me that "The 5th Gen is the new JKU...that's not a compliment..."
 
Exactly! As others have said, there are plenty of other options before having to drive off trail and ruin a natural habitat. Anybody who has been to Moab has probably seen the "don't bust the crust" signs posted everywhere. For them to not air down because they wanted to see what they could do at street pressure is ridiculous.
 
I simply commented, politely, to stay on the trail, that people watch for that stuff and trails get closed... in response was called a loser. Great way to make friends. They obviously know everything about everything though and anyone that doesn't fit their thought pattern is an outsider and not welcome.

There is a time and a place for everything. They were just in the wrong place to demonstrate IMO, they got called on it. There are hundreds of trails around where they were with features like they describe, that are actually on the trail.

I did the same but my approach was a little more sarcastic. Message was the same - keep it on the trail so the rest of us can enjoy it.
