I'm not even a jeep fan but DD@@**NN that sucks. All they had to so was sit down and think of a plan instead of hookin it up and just yanking. But i still feel bad for the jeep owner.

Seen that one a couple times. I think its funny how the guy at the end is saying "I don't want him to mess his truck up!"

A very clear lesson to be learned. Do not venture off road without proper recovery points, and do not try to recover a vehicle without them. The Jeep would have survived with minimal damage if lack of preparation had not been compounded by stupidity.

Hate to say it, but the kid deserved to lose his Jeep. If you are not even prepared to have your vehicle recovered, do not go out there at all.

Doesn't matter where they were pulling from... they were hooked onto the axle, which is dumb. There was only one way that story was going to end...

The problem with the Cherokee is it is a uni-body. Not many options to having a really good recovery point on them. There are options better than the axle but probably not much stronger.

Less then $100 for a hidden hitch up front which would serve well and reinforce the unibody. There is no excuse for not having recovery points. Either find / make something that works, or don't go off road in it.

At least as far as Central Overland is concerned:

Don't care what type of vehicle it is or what the issues are... no proper recovery points, no go for trips. Its just too dangerous to try to improvise or use inferior points.

On the front of a 4th Gen runner there are, I think, tie down loops. Are they strong enough to use for recovery?

They tie downs are less than ideal. I have used mine more than once though and they have held up just fine. Don't snatch on them though

I figured they weren't the most ideal place for attachment, but there doesn't seem to be any other choices up front.

Right in a situation where you have no other options they work fine. But never try to snatch off of one, they will just bend and or snap and get someone hurt or killed.
